Why do most games with anti-cheat not work with CrossOver Mac?

Yes, there are a few kernel-level anti-cheats that happen to play nicely at this moment in time. It is a very happy accident that some anti-cheats seem to work well with certain versions, not proof that we could make most kernel-level anti-cheats run on Mac and Linux if we just *tried hard enough.*

Happy anniversary, Valve. Let’s keep building awesome things together.

On August 22, 2018, Valve announced Steam Play, powered by Proton. Behind the scenes was two years of CodeWeavers’ development work alongside Valve, building a specialized compatibility layer based on W**e designed to run Windows games on Linux through Steam Play.

Eight years later, over 4,000 games are Steam Deck Verified, 77% of ProtonDB's top 1,000 are Gold or Platinum, and 4% of Steam's own hardware survey runs Linux.
