Cybersecurity Awareness month is just around the corner!

This October, Jen Lotze is hosting a free three-part webinar series on how attacks actually move through the modern workplace, and what to do about it.

For the first two sessions, we've partnered with Check Point Email Security and their team to go deep on where the real risk lives now. The third session is all IT Audit Labs, focused on what your IT partnership should be doing for you before anything goes wrong.

Here's the lineup, all free and at 12 PM CT:

The best IT partners are like good referees. When they're doing the job well, you barely notice them. We'll break down what a modern IT partnership should actually deliver, and the questions worth asking before you choose or renew one.

No scare tactics. No hour-long product demo. Just honest conversations, real examples, and a few laughs about how to keep work flowing while keeping attackers out.

All three sessions are free. Save your seat today.

Last night on Fox 9 News at 10, IT Audit Labs' Eric Brown broke down what happened and why small-town water systems in Minnesota landed in the crosshairs.

The short version: these were attacks on the technology behind the water, not the supply itself. Targets like these often run leaner security than the infrastructure deserves, which makes them attractive to nation-state actors now using AI to find attack paths that were once much harder to surface.

Critical infrastructure doesn't need to be dramatic to be vulnerable. It needs stewardship, visibility, and prevention built in before an incident forces the conversation.

Check out Eric's segment on Fox 9, and reach out if you want to talk through what resilience looks like for your systems.

We are excited to share that our own Jen Lotze is taking the stage at Outdoor Retailer this August.

Jen will be leading "The Digital Fortress," a session built for retail brands who want to protect what matters most: customer data, e-commerce transactions, and POS systems, without needing a computer science degree to understand it.

๐Ÿ“ Room 202A
๐Ÿ•˜ 9:45 AM โ€“ 10:45 AM
๐Ÿ“… August 19โ€“21, 2026 | Minneapolis, MN

Whether you're running a business or scaling an e-commerce operation, this session will give you practical, non-technical steps to close security gaps before they become headlines.

Jen Lotze is Principal Consultant and Security Strategist at IT Audit Labs, host of the SipCyber Podcast, and a national cybersecurity speaker who's built a career making security make sense for everyone, not just IT teams.

See you in Minneapolis.

Here's a two minute security tip from Jen Lotze you can do in less than 5 minutes.

Open Gmail in a browser, click the gear icon in the top right, then choose "See all settings." Look for Smart Features and Personalization, and review whether smart features across Gmail, Chat, Meet, and Workspace are turned on, along with smart features in other Google products.

If you're not using AI powered summaries, smart replies, or personalized search, you can turn some or all of it off. That's it. No tool to buy, no ticket to file. Just an intentional choice about what your environment shares and what it doesn't.

Good security isn't only about blocking threats. A lot of it comes down to understanding your settings and deciding, on purpose, how your data gets used.

Check the full length podcast where Jen breaks this one down on the latest SipCyber.

New episode of SipCyber every Wednesday.

Happy 250th, everybody. That's two and a half centuries of independence, backyard grills, and questionable fireworks decisions, and we wouldn't want to celebrate it with anyone but you.

To our clients, our friends, our families, and everyone who keeps us inspired all year long: thank you. You're the reason we do what we do, and today we're taking a moment to fly a little higher and appreciate all of it. ๐Ÿฆ…

So go enjoy the long weekend. Fire up the grill, find a good spot for the fireworks, and soak up the time with the people who matter.

From all of us at IT Audit Labs, happy Independence Day. Here's to 250 years, and to many more spent building something worth protecting. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Three of us are spending the day at Model Mind, sharpening our AI skills at the West End Conference Center, and we're having a blast.

We came in curious and left with a lot to put to work. The best part was less about the tools and more about the thinking behind them. Knowing where AI earns its place, and where human judgment still has to lead, is the difference between using technology and being used by it.

That balance is the whole game in our work. AI is the acceleration layer on top of the relationships, trust, and expertise that already drive results. Days like this make us sharper at applying it well.

Grateful for the conversations, the people in the room, and a team that keeps learning together. ๐Ÿš€

Here is something we are very excited to share.

Most organizations assume their email is covered. The incumbent tool is in place, the box is checked, and attention moves on to the next priority.

Then something slips through that nobody saw coming.

The truth is that email remains the front door to most environments, and the tools sitting in front of it are rarely tuned to show you what they are actually missing. If you are running the out-of-the-box tools, the gap between "protected" and "actually protected" can be wider than anyone wants to admit.

That is why we created the 14+1 checkup.

It runs in read-only mode inside your existing environment, takes about 30 minutes on the back end, and produces a clear report of what is genuinely happening across your email security posture. No rip and replace, no disruption to what you already have in place.

Just real visibility into the things your current setup is quietly letting through.

Introducing CISOViewโ„ข๏ธ from IT Audit Labs.

Every Microsoft 365 assessment we conducted began with extensive digging across admin centers, exporting settings, and cross-referencing toggles, all in an effort to create an accurate picture of a client's status. By the time we assembled this information, changes had already occurred, leaving our clients with outdated insights.

We recognized the need for a better solution and built the tool we wished existed.

CISOView functions like a FICO score for your Microsoft 365 security posture. It offers:
- A single dashboard for a clear view of strengths and vulnerabilities.
- Real-time updates on your environment's state through Pulse.
- Identification of potential attack targets with Risk.
- Compliance mapping to relevant frameworks.
- Task management that prioritizes actions based on findings.
- Vault for ready access to evidence when needed by auditors or insurers.

This means no more guessing about your environment. You gain visibility, understanding, and the ability to prove your security posture.

If you or your organization are interested in seeing how CISOView can transform your security posture, book a demo with one of our team members today via the link in the comments.

We're proud to share that Jen Lotze is taking the stage at the Minneapolis Official Cybersecurity Summit, a full-day event built for CISOs and senior security leaders. It's the kind of room where the real conversations happen: actionable sessions, solution showcases, genuine networking, and enough catered food and closing cocktails to keep the energy going all day.

Jen's session is one we'd block the calendar for: Before the Alarm: Community as a Security Control.

After hundreds of incident response engagements, Jen spotted a pattern. The organizations that weather incidents best aren't always the ones with the biggest budgets or the most sophisticated tooling. They're the ones where people actually trust each other.

Her path here wasn't a straight line. Special education teacher, then school district tech director, then Minnesota's CISA Cybersecurity State Coordinator. Every stop shaped how she thinks about community, trust, and who this field still isn't reaching.

When an insider threat lands in your top five worst cases ever, the technical response matters. But the culture you built before the alarm went off is what actually holds.

Congratulations, Jen. Go get them. ๐Ÿ‘

IT Audit Labs was named one of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's 65 Best Places to Work for 2026, and we're grateful for the recognition.

What makes this one meaningful is where the scores come from.

Thousands of Minnesota employees rated their own employers on leadership, communication, career development, and inclusion. The highest scorers across five workforce-size categories made the list, which means this reflects how our own team feels about working here.

We tell clients that great security is built, not bolted on. The same is true of a team. The culture that earned this recognition came from deliberate decisions over time, and from people who care about the work and each other.

To everyone on the team who made this possible: thank you. We're proud to build certainty for our clients, and just as proud of the people who make it happen. ๐ŸŽ‰
