Sometimes good service is simply saying, "We'll take care of it."

One of our newer clients had some old technology equipment left behind by a previous tenant. They wanted it gone and properly disposed of, but understandably didn't want to pay to dispose of someone else's equipment.

It's not really an IT support issue.

But we knew someone who could help.

So we're working with one of our partners to arrange for the equipment to be properly disposed of...at no cost to the client.

Small problem solved. One less thing for the client to worry about.

That's what we believe being a partner should look like.

Sometimes our value comes from the technology we manage.

Sometimes it comes from simply knowing the right person to call and saying, "We'll take care of it."

The client was happy with the installation. We weren't.

We recently installed a new wireless access point for a client. Because of the office construction, we couldn't hide the network cable inside the wall.

The access point worked perfectly. The client was happy. The job could easily have been considered complete.

But we didn't like the exposed cable.

So we came back, installed wire molding and gave it a clean, finished appearance.

No extra charge. We just wanted it done right.

When I spoke with the client this week, she specifically mentioned that little detail - and how happy she's been with the service and follow-up from our team.

That's a great reminder that excellent service is often found in the things you technically didn't have to do.

We're not looking to simply finish a job.

We're looking to build relationships with clients who know we'll take care of them.

𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐬.

That phrase has been on my mind a lot lately.

When I decided to leave the corporate world and become a business owner, I made another decision at the same time:

I wasn't going back.

I wasn't going to "try this for a while" and keep another corporate CTO role as my backup plan.

I was going to make it work.

There's something powerful that happens when you remove the exit ramp.

When failure remains an acceptable option, it's very easy to spend your energy thinking about why something is hard.

When you've committed to the objective, your thinking changes:

"Okay. This isn't working. So what do I need to change to make it work?"

I actually learned this lesson long before becoming a business owner.

Early in my career, I worked on large, complex software engineering projects. The projects where people believed cancellation was always an option often became consumed by everything standing in the way.

The successful teams thought differently.

The objective wasn't constantly up for debate.

The path was.

Change the architecture.

Change the plan.

Change the timeline.

Change the resources.

Learn. Adjust. Try again.

But keep moving toward the objective.

I'm finding entrepreneurship requires exactly the same mindset.

Some ideas won't work.

Some strategies will need to change.

Some days will make you question whether you have any idea what you're doing.

That's okay.

Commit to the destination. Stay flexible about how you get there.

You don't have to know exactly how you're going to succeed.

But at some point, you have to decide that you're going to.

How many "temporary" workarounds in your business have been there for years?

Maybe it's the computer that needs to be rebooted constantly.

The spreadsheet someone created because two systems don't communicate.

The shared password everyone knows.

The printer with its own special set of instructions. 😄

Or the files scattered across multiple places because "that's just where we've always kept them."

These little annoyances are easy to accept as part of doing business.

But over time, they add up - lost productivity, frustrated employees, unnecessary risk, and technology that starts holding your business back instead of helping it move forward.

A workaround is fine when it's temporary. When it becomes the process, it's worth asking why.

Sometimes improving your technology doesn't mean buying something new.

Sometimes it means finally fixing the things your team has learned to live with.

Sometimes great service has nothing to do with the reason you were called.

During a recent client installation, we replaced some aging surge protectors, added wire molding to make some exposed wiring look cleaner, and even took a box of garbage out to the dumpster that the client hadn't had a chance to get to.

Some of it could have been an extra charge.

Some of it could have been ignored and the job still would have been considered complete.

And some of it had absolutely nothing to do with IT.

But it all had something to do with taking care of the client.

We believe excellent service is often found in the little things - the things that are easy to walk past because they're technically "not our job."

What a fantastic day at the BizConnect Women in Business, Lifestyle & Leadership Expo this week!

Rob and I were proud to represent CMIT Solutions of South Nassau and CMIT Solutions of North Suffolk NY for Long Island and host a table at this year's event.

The best part of the day wasn't handing out information - it was meeting so many passionate business owners and having meaningful conversations about technology, cybersecurity, and growing their businesses.

One thing that really stood out was how many attendees already recognize the importance of cybersecurity and are actively thinking about how to better protect their organizations. That's always refreshing to hear!

A huge thank you to Joe Giametta for organizing another outstanding event, and congratulations to Rosemary Bonner on an inspiring keynote presentation.
