Great spending time with fellow CMIT Solutions owners at last week's Small Business Expo in NYC!

One of the things I appreciate most about being part of CMIT is that while we each own and operate our own local businesses, we're part of a much larger network of people who share ideas, experience, and expertise.

It was a great opportunity to come together, meet other small business owners, and make some new connections.

Local relationships. National strength.

Sometimes the most valuable thing you can offer someone is simply being there when they need you.

In business, we spend a lot of time talking about products, services, features, and pricing.

And those things certainly matter.

But I've always believed that what really defines a great business relationship is something much simpler.

Can people count on you?

When something goes wrong, do you answer the phone?

When a client has a problem, do you look for ways to help, even if it falls outside the usual scope of work?

Do you treat their challenges like they matter to you, too?

Technology is what we do at CMIT Solutions of North Suffolk.

But being someone our clients can count on is the kind of business we're working to build.

Sometimes good service is simply saying, "We'll take care of it."

One of our newer clients had some old technology equipment left behind by a previous tenant. They wanted it gone and properly disposed of, but understandably didn't want to pay to dispose of someone else's equipment.

It's not really an IT support issue.

But we knew someone who could help.

So we're working with one of our partners to arrange for the equipment to be properly disposed of...at no cost to the client.

Small problem solved. One less thing for the client to worry about.

That's what we believe being a partner should look like.

Sometimes our value comes from the technology we manage.

Sometimes it comes from simply knowing the right person to call and saying, "We'll take care of it."

The client was happy with the installation. We weren't.

We recently installed a new wireless access point for a client. Because of the office construction, we couldn't hide the network cable inside the wall.

The access point worked perfectly. The client was happy. The job could easily have been considered complete.

But we didn't like the exposed cable.

So we came back, installed wire molding and gave it a clean, finished appearance.

No extra charge. We just wanted it done right.

When I spoke with the client this week, she specifically mentioned that little detail - and how happy she's been with the service and follow-up from our team.

That's a great reminder that excellent service is often found in the things you technically didn't have to do.

We're not looking to simply finish a job.

We're looking to build relationships with clients who know we'll take care of them.
