📡 110 QSOs at US-5508 – KJ5BSW

KJ5BSW put together an impressive activation at US-5508 (Chesterfield State Forest), logging 110 QSOs in just over an hour.

For this activation, he ran the Yaesu FTX-1 Optima with the REZ Scout mounted on a REZ Surveyor Tripod Adapter and elevated radials, a lightweight field setup that delivered outstanding results.

His contact map shows strong coverage across the U.S., along with contacts into the Caribbean and Europe. A great example of what a well-deployed portable station can do when conditions line up.

Big Hour at Brazos Bend – KR1BBT

Jason (KR1BBT) put together an impressive run at US-2992 (Brazos Bend State Park), logging 82 QSOs in just one hour.

For this activation, Jason ran the REZ XFORM 4:1 on his Scout paired with a 25-foot whip, a versatile setup that delivered strong results across the map.

His contact map tells the story, with contacts stretching coast-to-coast across the United States and reaching into the Caribbean and South America. Highlights included stations from across the country along with DX into Colombia and Brazil.

When the bands cooperate and the hunters show up, the log fills up fast!

Southern Oregon Coast Success

John took advantage of a great day on the Southern Oregon Coast, proving once again that sometimes the bands surprise you. While others were reporting poor conditions, he put together an impressive activation and was rewarded with strong contacts across the western U.S. and beyond.

For this outing, John switched things up and deployed the REZ Scout with a 17-foot whip, then extended to a 25-foot whip with the Ranger 80 coil for 40 meters. The combination delivered excellent results on the coast and helped make for a memorable activation.

From youth contacts to an aeronautical contact and plenty of POTA activity, this was one of those days that reminds us why we get out and operate.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who gave everything in service to our country.

Their sacrifice made possible the freedoms we enjoy every day, including the ability to gather, explore, operate, and connect across the airwaves.

Whether you’re spending the weekend on the road, activating a park, working the bands from home, or simply enjoying time with family, we hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on those who never made it home.

Pretty cool seeing Walt Hudson put the new Yaesu FTX-1 on the air for the first time using the Scout XFORM 4:1 system with the Z-25 whip in a Rybakov-style vertical configuration.

Running 50 watts, the setup produced some seriously impressive results with DX contacts stretching from Russia to Guatemala and across Europe.

It’s a great example of what a simple, efficient field setup can do when everything comes together right.
