🇫🇮 Did you know that one of the top five contributors to Chicken Soup for the Soul in the WORLD lives right here in the Pacific Northwest? 📚✨

We headed down to the 40th anniversary of Finnfest in Naselle, Washington, to celebrate local Finnish heritage, and stumbled upon an absolute treasure of a human being in the exhibitor gymnasium!

Meet Jan, a hilarious, competitive, and wildly talented local author from the Long Beach Peninsula. After a torn Achilles tendon put her in a wheelchair in 1991, she found her silver lining: she started writing a column for the Chinook Observer, won 11 state awards, and never looked back!

Now, she's written 17 books—ranging from cozy mysteries featuring a geriatric belly-dancing troop to short stories about "12 ways to get rid of a guy that kind of annoyed me." 😂 Incorporating everything from her 252-lb weight loss journey to her goal of writing a Hallmark Christmas movie, Jan's passion is entirely contagious.

In this episode, we head to Rosburg, Washington, to meet Austin Burkhalter of Burkhalter Family Farms for an exclusive look at how they manage a herd of 300 cattle on 400 beautiful acres without a single chemical, pesticide, or antibiotic. 🧑‍🌾✨

Austin walks us through the mind-blowing technology they use to prioritize cow comfort and handle agricultural labor shortages:

🎙️ Smart Audio Collars: Every cow wears an advanced RFID collar with a built-in microphone that tracks their "cud chewing." If a cow's chewing drops, the farm computer alerts Austin before she even shows physical symptoms—allowing for early treatment using all-natural remedies like garlic, vitamins, and aloe vera!

🤖 Self-Serving Robotic Milkers: The cows are completely free-range and choose exactly when they want to be milked on their own schedule (between 2 to 6 times a day!).
