🚨 Ernst & Young β€” one of the 4 biggest accounting firms in the world β€” just filed data breach notices after client tax documents were exposed.

If a firm with that much money, staff, and security tech can still end up there, "are we as secure as EY?" isn't really the question.

The real question is: do you even know if your firm has already been exposed?

Here's what most business owners don't realize β€” you don't have to get hacked directly to end up in a breach database. A reused password. A vendor that got breached. An old employee account nobody shut down. Any one of these can put your company's name somewhere it shouldn't be β€” without anyone ever touching your systems. πŸ”“

The good news? This is one of the only security questions you can actually answer for free, in seconds.

We broke down what the EY breach means for firms your size, and how to check your own exposure: πŸ‘‰ Dark Web Exposure Scan for Law Firms: https://www.slingshotis.com/blog/dark-web-exposure-scan-law-firms/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ey_breach_post

🚨 Last week, while I was out to lunch, I received this text message.

I recognized it as a scam almost immediately.

But it got me thinking about how many people might not.

The message claimed there was suspicious activity on my Apple Pay account and urged me to call Apple Support immediately. Everything about it was designed to create just enough fear and urgency to get someone to react before they had time to think.

πŸ’‘ That's when I realized:

The text wasn't the scam. It was the bait.

🎣 The scammers weren't trying to steal my money with the text messageβ€”they were trying to get me to call the number. That's where the real scam begins.

I couldn't help but think about someone who might receive the same message and fall into the trap, so I turned it into a blog article explaining:

βœ… Why these scams work
βœ… The warning signs to watch for
βœ… The simple habit that can keep you from becoming the next victim

❓ Have you received one of these fake Apple Pay, bank fraud, or package delivery text messages recently? What company were the scammers pretending to be?

When did you last clean up your digital keyring? πŸ”‘

Most businesses guard their physical keys, alarm codes and office access carefully. The logins that protect their actual systems and data? Rarely checked.

But a forgotten login, a duplicated password, an account left active after someone's gone β€” each one is a door still standing open.

Every extra key is an extra risk.

Comment "Access" and we'll help you review who can still get in. πŸ‘‡

"But it came from someone I know!" 😳

A firm we helped got a bid invitation from a real, trusted contact β€” correct name, correct email, nothing faked. βœ…

The problem? 🎣 That mailbox was hijacked. The attacker beat MFA and emailed 1,200+ people who all recognized the sender.

The old rule β€” "don't open emails from strangers" β€” no longer works. ⚠️ The dangerous ones come FROM people you know.

Here's how it happened and how to protect your business πŸ‘‡

Email security for businesses starts with one truth: a message from someone you know can still be an attack. See a real case and how to respond.

Your tech can look fine on the surface and still be hiding risk underneath. 🧊

That's the trouble with IT problems β€” they're quiet right up until they aren't.

An assessment gives you a clear view: who has access, how your systems hold up, where your data lives, what happens if something breaks.

Find the gaps before they find you.

Your business grew. Your tech didn't. πŸ“ˆ

That gap shows up in quiet ways β€” who has access, who's accountable, what happens when something needs to be recovered.

Most firms don't notice until it costs them.

A quick review shows you what needs to catch up, before it turns into a real problem.

Growth has a blind spot. πŸ‘€

The businesses that stay in control keep watching what's changing.

They check whether their security and systems have kept up with the company they've become β€” before something forces the issue.

Real time off doesn't start at the airport. It starts with a better IT setup at the office. ✈️

If your team still calls you for every issue when you're "off," that's a systems problem, not a people problem.

The owners who actually unplug built better IT before they left. Proactive monitoring, automated alerts, clear escalation paths. So no one needs to reach you. πŸ“΄

Real time off is what happens when your technology finally works for you.

We build that for Newburyport professional services firms. Send us a message and let's get your time back. πŸ“ž

Myth: a good business owner is always reachable.

Fact: a well-built business doesn't need them to be. βœ…

When your tech works the way it should, you stop being the first call when something breaks. Problems get flagged early, and your team knows exactly who to call. It's not you. πŸ“΄

When your IT works, you don't have to.

What's the one thing that still makes you the first call? πŸ‘‡

Myth: your firm needs you around to stay on track.

Fact: it needs the right IT systems to stay on track. βœ…

When everything runs through you, going off the grid feels irresponsible.

When your IT is built for continuity, your absence is a non-event. Issues get flagged early, your team knows what to do, and nothing waits on you being reachable. πŸ“΄

That's the setup we build for Gloucester professional services firms.

What's the one thing keeping you from fully unplugging? πŸ‘‡
