Sharing "Scam Alert" from the Rockport Police Department
🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨
The Rockport Police Department would like to remind our citizens to remain vigilant against phone, email, and online scams. Scammers often impersonate law enforcement agencies, courts, government offices, utility companies, or other organizations and may claim that you owe money, have missed jury duty, have a warrant for your arrest, or face some other urgent issue. Their goal is to pressure you into making an immediate payment.
Remember:
❌ Law enforcement agencies and other criminal justice entities will NEVER call and demand payment over the phone.
❌ We will NEVER require payment by Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or other unusual payment methods.
❌ Legitimate agencies will not pressure you to act immediately or threaten arrest if you do not pay during a phone call.
If you receive a suspicious phone call, email, text message, or social media message requesting payment, do not provide personal information and do not send money.
If you are unsure whether a communication is legitimate, call the Rockport Police Department Non-Emergency Line at 361-729-1111 before making any payment or sharing personal information.
Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors—especially older adults who are frequently targeted by scammers.
Stay informed. Stay cautious. Stay safe.
