🎣 Don't take the bait! October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and scammers aren't taking any time off.

Three tricks to watch for:

💰 Too-good-to-be-true investments: guaranteed returns, "act fast" pressure, or crypto-only payments. Walk away.

📞 Spoofed phone calls: caller ID can be faked. Hang up and call back on a number you know is real.

📧 Phishing emails and texts: check the sender, skip the link, and go straight to the company's website or app.

🤔 Not sure if something's legit? Ask us before you click, pay, or call back!

🚨 TECH TALK TUESDAY 🚨

Got a text saying something you bought on Amazon was RECALLED? Don’t tap that link! 🛑

Scammers are sending fake “Amazon Product Recall Notice” texts. The link takes you to a fake Amazon login page that steals your password, and then they can shop on YOUR card.

✅ How to check for real recalls:
• Open the Amazon app or website yourself. Never use a link in a text.
• Real recalls show up at the top of your Amazon account page.
• Amazon emails you by name about recalls. It doesn’t send random texts that don’t even name the product.

Already clicked or typed in your password? Change your Amazon password right away and call your bank. If your phone or computer is acting strange afterward, bring it by. We’ll check it for you! 💻📱

🚗 Is your car telling on you?

Researchers at Northeastern University, working with Consumer Reports, tested 21 new cars from 19 brands, and 19 of them sent data to at least one outside company. Big names like Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft were among those receiving driver data, and several car apps shared things like VINs, phone numbers, and precise locations.

Most of us agreed to it without realizing, just by tapping "I agree" when we set up the car's app.

The good news: turning off optional data sharing in your car's app and tightening the privacy settings on your phone can cut down what gets shared. 🔒

Not sure how to change the privacy settings on your phone? Stop by Tech Time Computers and we'll help you lock it down! 📱
