There is a battle going on for you. It's a battle between Facebook, Google, Amazon and your private data. Not just your web data, but your purchasing habits, viewing habits, even where you drive and when.
Facebook is waging a war against Apple right now because Apple has decided to increase security on their devices in order to stop covert data collection, and Facebook is very upset.
But your data is stolen in many other places.
Can you stop it?....no
Can you slow it down and severely hamper it?....oh yes. And here's how.
1. Stop using Google Chrome. Use Brave instead. It doesn't allow tracking of any kind.
2. Stop using Google search. Use Duck Duck Go instead. They don't sell your searches to retailers.
3. Keep your Amazon Alexa devices on mute until you need them.
4. Go through your google and facebook security options and delete linked accounts you no longer use.
5. Check your google history to see if you want your location, web history and youtube history kept forever.
6. Don't use Facebook or Facebook messenger apps. Only access Facebook from the web interface, even on your phone.
7. Check your Amazon security settings, especially the settings for your personal information and saved lists. Your saved lists are wide open by default and anything you save there can be viewed. Lock it down, or don't use lists.
8. Make sure you have a good Anti-virus on your computer.
9. Turn on 2-factor authentication for all accounts that have it. It will severely curtail your accounts getting hacked.
10. This seems like a lot, and it may seem overwhelming to the point where you want to throw your hands up and give up. Don't. Even if you do one thing today, that's better than yesterday. Next week, do another. One step at a time. Or call us to help.
Your data is yours. The war for your data is going on, and ultimately the losers will be us as privacy goes away and the targeted advertisements of today turns to targeted attacks of tomorrow.
