Everyone wants your data. They will use any way they can think of to gain access to your computer. One new way that has been used on me 3x in the last week is through Google GDrive. GDrive has the ability to share files and folders with anyone that has an email address. I've been getting shared folders showing up in my GDrive from unknown people. DO NOT open these. Just right click the folder and Report it. That will remove it automatically and keep you safe. Stay safe out there.

If you use a home or small business router made by TP Link, you may want to consider getting something else. TP Link is a Chinese company and when the US Govt investigated the latest cyber attacks, the majority of infected routers were made by TP Link. The govt is currently trying to ban them.

Due to the ongoing Chinese hacking of the nation's telecommunications network, it would be prudent if everyone moved away from standard SMS texting and started using an end to end encrypted chat program such as Signal or Whats-App.

Standard chat through your provider is not encrypted and all your messages can be hacked. Verizon and AT&T still haven't completely eradicated the hackers from inside their networks.

When you think of IT support, what comes to mind? Oftentimes I hear: "Oh! I didn't know you guys did that".

So yes, we not only do all your 'basic to advanced' IT support, we do physical Ethernet cabling, WiFi installs, Telephone systems, Camera systems, Cyber security (HIPAA, PCI, NIST, CMMC), Spectrum internet connections, Firewall/network installs and full Managed Services at really low rates.

Always ask us for a second opinion. We don't charge you to take a look at a quote you got, even if you think you're saving a ton of money.

Cybersecurity should be on everyone's mind right now. If you are a small/medium business and you have not spent any time or money on cyber, then I can guarantee you are at risk. What kind of risk you ask? Risk of benign stuff like malware and viruses to nasty things like data breaches, ransomware (military encryption of your data), and PC takeovers. Ransomware alone can cost a small business between $10,000 and $50,000 to buy back the encryption keys from the bad guys.

Cybersecurity is done with multiple layers and is maintained continuously. It is not a set it, and forget it type of security.

Gartland Tech has the means and the know-how to set up the multiple layers needed to pass different levels of cyber testing. So you have to ask yourself, what is my risk tolerance? If your business was down for 2-14 days due to ransomware, could you survive?

The cost of cyber security is not low, but it's becoming one of the most important things you can do to keep your data and your company safe.

Please call us. I'd rather talk to you now when you don't have a problem, then talk to you later when I'm trying to get your business running again.

There is a battle going on for you. It's a battle between Facebook, Google, Amazon and your private data. Not just your web data, but your purchasing habits, viewing habits, even where you drive and when.
Facebook is waging a war against Apple right now because Apple has decided to increase security on their devices in order to stop covert data collection, and Facebook is very upset.
But your data is stolen in many other places.
Can you stop it?....no
Can you slow it down and severely hamper it?....oh yes. And here's how.

1. Stop using Google Chrome. Use Brave instead. It doesn't allow tracking of any kind.
2. Stop using Google search. Use Duck Duck Go instead. They don't sell your searches to retailers.
3. Keep your Amazon Alexa devices on mute until you need them.
4. Go through your google and facebook security options and delete linked accounts you no longer use.
5. Check your google history to see if you want your location, web history and youtube history kept forever.
6. Don't use Facebook or Facebook messenger apps. Only access Facebook from the web interface, even on your phone.
7. Check your Amazon security settings, especially the settings for your personal information and saved lists. Your saved lists are wide open by default and anything you save there can be viewed. Lock it down, or don't use lists.
8. Make sure you have a good Anti-virus on your computer.
9. Turn on 2-factor authentication for all accounts that have it. It will severely curtail your accounts getting hacked.
10. This seems like a lot, and it may seem overwhelming to the point where you want to throw your hands up and give up. Don't. Even if you do one thing today, that's better than yesterday. Next week, do another. One step at a time. Or call us to help.

Your data is yours. The war for your data is going on, and ultimately the losers will be us as privacy goes away and the targeted advertisements of today turns to targeted attacks of tomorrow.

Amazon is rolling out a new product called sidewalk. If you have a ring doorbell or Alexa device you are automatically opted into sidewalk.
Sidewalk shares a small portion of the internet you pay for, creating a low bandwidth neighborhood network that others can use for free.
Is it secure? Amazon says it is.
Is it useful? Amazon says it is.
I turned it off, and you should too.
Open your Alexa app and...
Tap “more” in the lower-left corner
Tap “settings”
Tap “account settings”
Tap “Amazon Sidewalk”
Switch it to the left which disables it. It should then say disabled.
