This AS-801 is shipping out today and I rarely show photos of the mod itself. In Angela-Gilbert Yeung fashion all capacitors are mounted with silicone, lasting usually much longer than plastics used in such components while also providing some anti vibration benefits.
The power rails are always done in 14 gauge solid core copper. The amp is then labeled, the year the mod was done and of course credit where it is due to AGY. I’ve started adding my initial as a form of signature, because we are more than just companies. AG doesn’t have a manufacturing team or employees. Neither do I. We are individuals who care about craft and what really matters.
Despite this addition and the signature, unless you shine light directly into the holes of the chassis cover, nothing stands out once all buttoned up, only the sound.

I spend a lot of time answering some common questions regarding the Yamaha modifications, so I decided to go ahead and make a video covering FAQ.

1 year ago today I completed the first Yamaha mod here in the US. This is still a great budget friendly modification that reflects the price of the amplifier, but still really wakes up the capabilities that are already there. There are some common questions I get on these, I will be addressing these in a video as I complete another Yamaha modification.

While the system is down, I’m taking some time to do the side projects in repairing and upgrading components such as my power amp. New terminals are installed from a parts unit, leaving the budget on repairing the speakers.

The bases of the QLS-1 were completely destroyed by the flood damage, so they will need completely rebuilt. First is the paperwork and math to calculate out the original internal volume of the cabinet to maintain woofer tuning. Then the math of total area of material I need for the design.

I could do more complex joinery using hardwood, but the main goal is restoring the QLS to working condition, and to protect them against any future similar issues. My design will be a simple but extra sturdy double 1/2” MDF, so a total of 1” thick walls on every side. The original design used some sort of MDF with 45 degree miter joints that caused some air leaking in the past. With interlocking butt joints there won’t be any air leaking out of this cabinet.
