💀 This week's Holey Terror: Hole No. 14 at Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course — Oregon, OH
An Arthur Hills design and the late architect's love letter to his hometown of Toledo. 1,850 acres of protected wetlands along Ohio's north coast, laid out as a Scottish-style links with rolling mounds, tall fescues, and water everywhere you look.
No. 14 is rated the No. 1 handicap, and it earns it:
💧 The fairway turns left-to-right between two ponds, a funnel you have to thread
🌾 Miss it, and the tall native grasses swallow the ball whole
⛳️ The approach is a delicate shot to an oblong, diagonal green pitched left and fronted by water
Hills passed in 2021 at 91, but Maumee Bay remains one of the most distinct public courses in the Midwest. Strategically sound, pleasing to the eye, and patient enough to make you pay for one bad swing.
