Squash's Ridgefield Office Supply

We are frequently asked how our nickname "Squash's" came to be and here is the story. At the time we began, Ridgefield was a very small, rural community nestled among ridges of land. Our town and our business have grown and prospered over the past 50 years. In the early to mid 1900's, there were a great many families of Italian descent living and working in Ridge

field. At that time many families had vegetable gardens and enjoyed garden-fresh produce during the summer. A boy named Aldo was born into one of these families. As he grew up, he began to work at a local pharmacy and soda fountain known as H.P. Bissell's Pharmacy. Have you ever planted hills of squash in your garden? If you have, then you know what happens. You get enough squash to feed your family, your friends and most of your church, too! Everyday during the summer, this boy named Aldo came to work at H.P. Bissell's Pharmacy with his lunch. The lunch came from the garden; it was squash. Soon, this lad was nicknamed, "Squash." And, the nickname stayed with him as he grew up. Eventually, Squash was able to purchase a local store for himself. For a period of about 40 years of our history, we were owned and operated by the man nicknamed Squash and, hence, we became locally famous as Squash's store. Our business has evolved, the man name Squash is no longer involved, but the nickname has stayed with us. Our Squash's name is still synonymous with a store that has everything you need and the best service in the world. We are now a premier retail and copy/print shop with School Supplies, Office Products and Stationery that prides itself on our hometown service and competitive pricing. On a typical market-basket of office supplies our total price will be comparable to the well-known big box stores. We are gone from 389 Main street but the memory of our jelly beans is still with us So glad Deborah Ann's Sweet Shoppe Deborah Ann's Sweet Shoppe is kicking off jelly bean season! However, not once did they source our beans! Now, using our packaging, and different label … not our beans. It would have been nice to talk about this first. Squash’s misses town and all of our customers, but railroading is not ok. We still live here and of course, deserve the respect of at least, 30 years of beans. 🤯 50 of spporting team on RLL, 70 years of support serving Ridgefield and years of our mutual merchants.

A fond farewell to Whitney, Tom, Wendy and everyone who helped us at Squash over the past many, many years. Thank you for the hundreds of posters, and thousands of performance programs. For always saying yes to the last minute requests and for providing a place where one could always drop in to say hi, and purchase things we didn't realize we needed. We wish you all the best, and will miss your steady presence on Main.
