Welcome to 418 E Main Street, RVA, our home, reimagined. ✨

We created this space to welcome our clients, friends and neighbors, but also to be more than just an office. We want it to be a hub for transformational work, creative collaboration, community conversations, off-sites, events and whatever else might “expand what people can do” together.

Thank you to Erin Campbell and team, our interior designers, and WillHouse , our contractors, for helping us bring this place to life, and credit to these (mostly local) artists:

🎨 Shepard Roeper - colorful and bold large acrylic painting
🎨 Renée Stramel Artist & Designer - four matching abstracts
🖌️ Holly Raddin Dixon - local muralist
🇲🇽 Marquesa de Mancera - traditional Mexican straw art from an incredible shop in San Miguel de Allende, MX

Have a look around and hit us up if you have an idea for the space, want to collaborate, or just want to stop by and say hi!

What we’ve been up to lately: adventure, meaningful work and good people and partners along the way.

🇮🇪 Hiking, horseback riding, and traveling to Ireland for the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Global Leadership Summit.

✈️ On the road with our wonderful partners at FINN — from Salt Lake City and our multi-city work with Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Public Art Challenge, to Puerto Rico for an AARP Member Benefits community activation and video shoot. Plus a few stops in between!

We’re deeply loyal to our relationships and value the kind of partnerships that grow over years, not transactional projects. That continuity makes the work better — and gives us the opportunity to create something meaningful for our clients and the communities they serve.

We stay curious, solve the right problems and remain relational in how we work. Ultimately, our presence drives results for our clients, strengthens the organizations and communities we work with, and creates impact that lasts.

At our 2023 CUREtreat in Miami, we got to gather in beautiful places and spaces, enjoy great food, stay up late (VR and board games) and wake up early (yoga on the pool deck).

We also spent time looking at the future of our work and unveiled three primary concentrations: Continuing Ed & Credentialing, Dashboards & Data Modeling, and Digital Amplification of Live Events.

More to unpack here, but we can say, the future is specialized and AI is our friend.

While on CUREtreat in Miami, we took some time to learn from a totally different POV at the Miami Ad School.

We heard wisdom about growing in the workplace while maintaining your creative edge from Helayne Spivak, former director of VCU Brandcenter, how learning must be greater than or equal to change from Miami Ad School Chief Creative Officer / Director of Academics Cliff Courtney, and the backstories of memorable tags like Dos Equis, the most interesting man in the world, and Arby's, we have the meats from Michael Fanuele. The best part wasn't the end message but validation of the importance of research and understanding your audience to really 'get it'.

Creative integrity is dead. It's creative impact that matters.

Fresh off of CUREtreat in Miami and this year's retreat was voted our best yet!

In addition to posing in front of boats, we spent some time presenting our successes and learnings from 2023. What we didn't expect was our web developer Peyton to make hilarious superlatives that made us feel seen and known. Considering making a series here based on each superlative now. From "Most likely to be Friends with Senior Influencers" to "Most Likely to Suggest a New Tool to Replace the Last Tool that He Suggested", the callouts were genius.

Some of our team took time out to attend the AIGA | the professional association for design conference last week in where folks from Pepsi, Instagram, and Pentagram talked standout yet effective design.

As we think about how their perspectives can influence ours, here’s where we’re focused:

Consumer Insights are Key - Pepsi Design Director showcased how their new look extends the “unapologetic enjoyment” of their brand. But, to get there, they relied heavily on consumer insights. As a result, Pepsi looked so good it had drinkers asking about the great new taste (even though they never changed the formula!) That’s the power of well-backed branding . . it can completely change product perception!

The Designer’s Perspective Matters - In a world where 80% of young adults are likely to base their purchases on a brand's mission or purpose SO many brands are investing in their origin story. But, to stand out from the noise Juan Carlos Pagan @ Sunday Afternoon emphasized the importance of designers really bringing their individual perspective to each client’s ex*****on to ensure brands are actually authentic and uniquely relatable.

AI Imitates Life - Ivy Ross Google said “AI takes the rational things off your plate, giving us more time to be human . . to be more imaginative.” AI is here to stay and good agencies are using AI in their processes to create brands, select images, and even write ads with new assurance of effectiveness. But, it’s human life and varied experiences that refine the model. We must continue to view it as an instrument, not a substitute for original thought. We’re still (at least for now!) the artists.

Bottom line and we agree: there is still room to innovate. Through effective research, thoughtful multi-perspective design, and embracing technology for good, we can and will create work that works for our clients and their customers.
