Some people see trash. Others see something worth saving.
I found this cutting board at the Goodwill Outlet, better known as “the bins.”
It was beat up. Deep knife marks covered the surface, the wood was splitting, and it looked like it had seen better days. Most people probably walked right past it, seeing nothing worth keeping.
But I saw something different.
I brought it home, planed away the damaged surface, repaired the splitting wood, added fresh 45-degree beveled edges, and re-engraved the original Pioneer Woman logo.
Underneath all that damage was a beautiful piece of wood. It just needed someone willing to see its potential.
And that got me thinking about recovery.
How many people walk through life feeling exactly like that cutting board?
Beat up by life. Scarred by mistakes. Worn down by addiction, broken relationships, poor decisions, or circumstances beyond their control.
Maybe people have written you off. Maybe they've told you that you'll never change. Or maybe you've started believing those things about yourself.
But your scars don't determine your worth. Your past doesn't have to define your future. And just because someone else can't see your value doesn't mean it isn't there.
That cutting board didn't suddenly become valuable when I restored it. The value was there all along. The damage just made it harder to see.
People are no different.
Sometimes the most important thing you can do is surround yourself with people who see what you can become instead of constantly reminding you of what you've been.
People who encourage you, challenge you, believe in you, and walk alongside you as you rebuild your life.
That's what recovery communities should be. A place where nobody gets thrown away.
At Forever Free, we believe God isn't finished with you. No matter where you've been, what you've done, or how many times you've fallen, your story isn't over.
If you're struggling, rebuilding, or simply looking for people who understand, there's a community that believes you're worth showing up for.
❤️ You are not disposable. You are not beyond hope. You are worth more than your worst chapter.
