We have reached the peak of wildland fire season. Fire danger in the county has been elevated to Very High and extra precautions have been put into place to support initial attack including severity staffing (firefighters staffed at the stations ready to respond to wildfires) and automatic mutual aid (multiple departments paged out to wildland calls simultaneously).

The burn permit system remains closed which means no burning debris or clearing fields for personal or agricultural purposes (effectively Stage 1 fire restrictions). Campfires less than 48 inches in diameter and contained by rock, brick, cinder block, etc. are still allowed but must be monitored closely and extinguished completely when finished.

A couple of additional prevention tips to remember during this time:

* Avoid activities that create sparks during the hottest, windiest part of the day.
* Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks on the roadway.
* Don’t park or drive on dry grass.
* Never toss ci******es or smoking materials from your vehicle.
* Avoid setting off fireworks
