Grandma's phone gets scam texts every day. Fake tolls, fake packages, fake bank alerts. π±
It's not just annoying. It only takes one tap on the wrong link on a bad day.
The good news is that most phones already have tools that help. They just aren't always turned on:
β’ Spam filtering in the messaging app
β’ A setting that sorts texts from unknown senders into their own folder
β’ Blocking and reporting a number in a couple of taps
None of this stops every scam, but it can cut down on what gets through and make the real messages easier to spot.
If you'd rather have someone set it up in person, that's something Cognitive Infrastructure Labs does. I'll come to the house, go through the phone or tablet with you, turn on the protections that make sense, and show you how to handle the next suspicious text yourself. π‘
If someone in your family is getting buried in scam texts, send Cognitive Infrastructure Labs a message.
