It’s time to start planning NerdStock 2024 and I NEED HELP!

Anyone and everyone is welcome to lend a hand, but if anyone has experience with charitable fundraising then PLEEEEASE consider reaching out to me and volunteering. This truly has the potential to be one of the biggest and best festivals in EKY but I simply can’t do it alone.

I don’t make one penny from this. The money raised from vendor and food truck fees is used to advertise the event. Anything left over will be given to charity. I want to raise funds to hire local bands/musicians to perform, as well as some other cool stuff that I have in mind.

We are streaming tonight around 6:30 or 7:00. We will have cards for purchase if anyone wants to rip some packs. But otherwise we will just be hanging out and chatting (testing the waters on a podcast, who knows?)

Correction on yesterdays post: it appears that the other event on 5/4 isn’t going to be in Prestonsburg. But it’s close enough that we’d be competing for the same attendees.

Pushing the spring Nerdstock up into April doesn’t give enough time to get ready. And moving it back into June has us dealing with the summer heat.

So after much consideration, we have decided to cancel the Spring event altogether and focus all of our time/attention on getting ready for the Fall.

Nerdstock 2024 will take place in September. We will make an announcement on the actual date ASAP. We have to get approval from City Hall, and there’s a brand new Mayor getting settled in so it might take a couple weeks. Stay tuned.

**ANNOUNCEMENT AND POLL**

Many people know that we planned to have two Nerdstock events in 2024, with the next being on Star Wars Day, May 4th. However, for multiple reasons, most of which were beyond our control, we were late making an official announcement.

In the meantime, someone else has created a nearly identical event, on the same day, and in the same town.

So now we have a decision to make. And need input: Do we move it to June, or just cancel it and focus on the Fall event?

Hey y’all!
Long time no see!

We’d like to do a Christmas fundraiser to buy cards/comics/whatever for the children’s hospital in Pikeville. Send me a DM on here or my personal page (Neil Borders) if you’d be interested in donating.

I’m gauging interest before we start it up. I don’t want to show up with 10 packs of Pokémon cards.

We created a charity called The NerdStock Foundation, and committed to using any money raised from the NerdStock festival to better the lives of the youth in our communities.

Our first project is to provide decks for any school aged child (must be at least 13 years old) who wants to participate in Magoffin Magic.

The first 8 kids to RSVP by this Thursday the 26th will get a free deck of Magic cards. The child does not have to be a resident of Magoffin County, or attend Magoffin County schools.

No experience needed! We will have plenty of experienced players on hand who will be happy to teach the basics. And for any adult who doesn’t have a deck and/or wants to learn the game, there will be several decks available to borrow.

Come to the NerdStock 2024 booth at the Jenny Wiley festival! Booth 37 in the marketplace area. Look for the logo!

Starting at 5:30 this evening (court ran late today) and going until the festival ends tomorrow night!

We will be set up in the marketplace section of the Jenny Wiley festival. It is across the street from the courthouse, behind Daffodil’s. Booth #37.

We will be there starting around 3pm on Friday (give or take an hour) and will be there for the remainder of the festival.

WANT TO KNOW THE DATE OF THE NEXT NERDSTOCK?

All you gotta do is come find us at the Jenny Wiley festival!

We will be set up on Friday evening and all day Saturday. I’m selling some comics and cards, and Mrs Nerdstock is having another mobile pop up for her makeup and beauty products.

Thank you all for making the first ever nerdStock a success! We appreciate you all so much, and can’t wait to do it again.

We’re gonna hibernate for a bit, and then get work on planning the next one.
