Plumas-Sierra Telecommunications is a wholly owned subsidiary of Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative located on the east slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In the same way Electric Cooperatives brought electricity to rural areas that were not served by other utilities, PSREC management and Board of Directors saw and fulfilled a need to offer affordable telecommunication and Internet servic
e in areas where it was not previously available. In August 2010, Plumas-Sierra was awarded an ARRA Grant to fund the construction of a 198-mile fiber optic network. The project, when completed, will be the core communications infrastructure for the region and serve the area with a secure, vital link to the outside world. The project is a joint mission resulting from a collaborative effort of partners within the region.
