📚READING TIP!
Try this the next time your young reader asks, “Is this word _____?”
🎯Teach them the 3 Cueing Systems that good readers use to tell if a word they read is correct or not!
🎯First, the reader should ask, “Does it Look Right?” - Does it have all the letters in the right place to be the word I just said?
🎯Second, “Does it Sound Right?” - Does it sound like the way we talk when we speak English?
🎯Third, “Does it Make Sense?” - Does the word I read make sense in the sentence?
🎯If the answer is, “Yes” to all 3 questions, most of the time, the word they chose is correct!
🎯If the answer is, “No” to any of the 3 questions, then it’s NOT the word they said!
🎯Have them try again to figure out the tricky word.
🎯If they’re still unsuccessful, then give them some guidance and help them decode it; unless it’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
🎯In that case, just tell them the word! 😊
