About a month ago, I was walking my dog when I passed someone wearing a Colgate sweatshirt. Naturally, I said, “go ‘gate.”

That simple greeting turned into a conversation. I learned he was a junior Computer Science major at Colgate, and I told him about my company, Moon Rooster LLC. When I asked if he had a summer internship lined up, he said he did, but immediately mentioned a friend who he thought would be a perfect fit for our team.

That introduction led me to Liam Davis, a fellow Computer Science major and captain of the Colgate Track & Field team.

After interviewing Liam and having him complete a technical assessment, it quickly became clear he was an exceptional candidate. We evaluated several applicants using an objective scoring system, and Liam finished in first place, much like he does on the track.

Since joining Moon Rooster, he has made an immediate impact. Not only has he excelled at every task we’ve given him, but he has also brought thoughtful ideas and fresh perspectives that have helped us work more efficiently and improve our technology stack.

What stands out most to me is how this opportunity came together. A chance encounter on a neighborhood dog walk led to a connection, an introduction, and ultimately the addition of a talented new team member.

It’s a great reminder of the strength of the network. Sometimes all it takes is a simple “go ‘gate” to open a door. As they say, wherever you go, go ’gate!
