20260506 - Be vigilent people. Scams abound, and some are very convincing. I get multiple scam emails per day. This kind of thing could wipe out a person's livelihood.

An email that appears to be from Wells Fargo and says unauthorized transactions detected.

DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT click on the link that says something about verification, or any links, within the email. This is called "phishing" and is an attempt to steal your logon information. If you have concerns, call your bank directly or even better go to a branch. Never call any numbers within the email though.

Note: If you click to see the from address, you'll notice its not a wells fargo domain name.

2 Helpfull Tips:
(1) Ensure all passwords are at least 12 characters. Preferably including upper and lower case letters, some numbers, and even symbols.

(2) On financial related accounts, where money is accessible and or spendable, enable multi factor authentication where available.

(3) The most important password you have is your email password.

(4) If you use a computer to shop, and you save passwords in your browser, then a password equally important to #3 is your computer password. Fight the urge to use pin numbers to log on to your computer.

Amazing!

I'm putting together a computer quote for a client and prices of components are crazy. A year or so ago I could get a Western Digital 500gb SSD for around $60. The cost of some types of CPUs are in the thousands of dollars. That EXACT same component is now around $160. Also, all CPUs and Motherboards are coming from Hong Kong. I use to be able to order components, build a computer, and be ready for install in about 2 weeks. Due to CPUs and Motherboards coming from Hong Kong, it ends up taking at least a month. God forbid should a component be defective.

‼🚨 "Geek Squad Renewal" Scam Email

So this has started floating around again... Please be aware, these emails are SCAMS!

🚩 How would you know?
- The phone number is NOT for Geek Squad
- Pay attention to the +1 with the phone number
- Pay attention to the sender email address. Geek Squad will not email from a "person's" email address or from gmail!

🚩What can you do to verify?
- Ask yourself, do you even have an account?
- If you do, check your Best Buy account!
- Independently find the number for Best Buy Geek Squad and call!

P.S. - The number for Geek Squad is: (888) 237-8289

We've had phone issues for a few days. It appears they're resolved. If you've tried to call and couldn't get through, all appears well now.

I suspect a new cell phone scam is starting:

You get a text from an unknown number. The texter says "your number is in my contact list with no name. Who are you?"

Beware and don't respond in any way. I'm not sure what the end result would be but I'm certain it wouldn't be good.

Technology related scams are constantly evolving. I've been in the computer field since the early 90's and have seen so many changes over the years. It's going to continue and the scammers will constantly evolve and get more creative.

Computer Users, Be Vigilant and Take Notice! Below us a great example of a scam called "phishing." The goal of "phishing" is to trick people into giving real information.

In the images it appears someone is trying to reset my Facebook password. It gives a link where I can click to "change password." If you look up top at the from email address, the info on the right side of @ is not Facebook. It says something with Facebook in it but it isnt Facebook.

If you get a message like this, delete it. Never ever click on anything within the message to reset passwords, enter account info, etc. If you need ti administer your account, go straight to the website. Dont use links within emails.

I graduated high school in 1990. In 1992/1993 I started going to school for computers. First i went for some specific software applications but later started studying programming. I gradiated Technical College in 1996 with a major and honors in Computer Programming and got my first job in Warner Robins Georgia as a technician and where i worked for about 2.75 years at a Christian computer company.

In 1999 i was hired by Gateway Computers to run the service center at the Gateway Country store in Columbus. I eventually moved to a technician position and continued with Gateway for about 2.75 years.

I left Gateway in 2002 because i didnt like the corporate environment. I went to work for a small copy machine company as a technician connecting machines to computers and networks among other things. As it turned out, some of the companys activities bordered on criminal. Certainly unethical. In 2003, around March, i saw "the writing on the wall" and got a business license and starting preparing to go into business for myself. In April i got fired. The company has since gone bankrupt.

The day i got fired from the last company i worked for was also my first day being in business and if i remember correctly it was April 15, 2003.

As of April 15, 2023 Holland Computer Solutions has been in business for 20 years. The economy has been tough on the company but God has been good and kept us/me working. It helps that Holland Computer Solutions has some of the best clients a business could ask for.

Thank you to all our clients for blessing Holland Computer Solutions with your business.

Thank you to the Chattahoochee Valley for 20 years.

As a side not: Thank you to Brenda Whitley Wood for being the first official customer of Holland Computer Solutions on April 15, 2003.
