You may have seen claims that smart TVs are “taking thousands of screenshots per hour.”

That specific number isn’t accurate—but the underlying concern is real.

Many smart TVs use something called Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), which can track what you’re watching and send that data back to manufacturers or advertisers.

From a security and privacy standpoint, here’s what we recommend:

• Turn off viewing data / ACR in your TV settings
• Disable ad personalization
• Keep your TV on a separate Wi-Fi network if possible
• Use DNS filtering (like Pi-hole) to block tracking

Your TV is tracking you.

Smart TVs take thousands of screen shots an hour to monitor what you’re watching. Then they send this information to TV manufacturers (Samsung, LG, Vizio, Roku, Sony) and third-party advertising partners/data brokers. This data is used to deliver targeted, personalized ads across your TV and connected devices.

They also have your billing information and can be hacked creating another level to the dangers of these devices.

Smart TVs like many of the SMART devices in your home are glorified wire tappers that track and trace your behaviors.

If you care about freedom, remove these devices from your home and limit the access you give to tech companies.

Everything you do will be used against you unless you prevent access to your personal information.
