That "remind me tomorrow" button on update notifications is one of the most expensive habits in business IT. Most successful attacks don't use some exotic new trick. They walk through a known hole that a patch already fixed weeks ago, on a machine where nobody clicked update. The fix is to stop relying on people to remember. Patching should run automatically, on a schedule, across every machine, including the browsers and PDF readers and the apps nobody thinks about. If updates at your shop still depend on someone getting around to it, contact us to learn about our managed services.

Here's the thing about IT support: the response time matters more than almost anything else on the brochure. When something breaks, every minute your team can't work is money. That's why Facet answers live, around the clock, and gets a real person on your issue in under 15 minutes. Not a ticket number that sits overnight. A 99%+ live call answer rate and engineers who've been here long enough to know your setup before you finish explaining it. Proactive monitoring catches a lot before you'd ever notice. For the rest, we're already on it.

Your file storage was built for people. AI assistants don't work like people. When you point a tool like Copilot at your network, it can read across everything it's allowed to touch, all at once, instantly. That old shared drive where "everyone has access to everything because it was easier" suddenly becomes a real exposure, because now an AI can surface a sensitive HR file or a finance folder to someone who was never supposed to see it. The fix isn't avoiding AI. We recommend tightening permissions, governance, and data access first, so the tools only see what they should. If your team is rolling out AI assistants, we can help you make it right before you flip the switch.

When was the last time someone on your team got an email asking them to "verify" a login or reset a password? Attackers count on a busy Tuesday and a quick click. The fix is boring and it works: turn on multi-factor authentication everywhere it's offered, especially email, banking, and admin accounts. It adds about three seconds to a login and blocks the overwhelming majority of password attacks. Remember to switch it on for every account you can.

Often, the "IT person" at the office is an employee who's tech saavy and helpful--they start by fixing printer issues or connecting the CEO's phone to an email account.

Five years later, that person often finds they're configuring firewalls based on YouTube tutorials, or spending half a week troubleshooting a Microsoft 365 issue.

The "accidental IT person" problem is something we see often when we visit offices for assessments or audits. It may seem like a cost-saving measure, but leaders tend to miss a few important things.

Firstly, these employees often burn out and quit, sometimes without notice, leaving huge knowledge gaps. Secondly, an untrained person who's CONFIDENT in their IT decisions is often a bigger security risk than one who's openly overwhelmed. False confidence resists outside review. They believe their security posture is fine because nothing has gone wrong yet.

We wrote about the pattern, why it happens, and what to do about it. 👇

Multi-factor authentication blocks the vast majority of password-based attacks, and it's for more than just your work email. If you log in with just a username and password, you're one common attack away from a breach. Turning on MFA across email, banking, and admin accounts is an incredibly effective cybersecurity move that costs nothing.
