Tomorrow is our last day at Alabama Safari Park, and I wanted to share a little bit about what we do at Viral-Technology.
A lot of people ask me, “What exactly does your company do?”
The short answer is: no, we don’t just fix computers.
Well… occasionally we do. But only because it serves the bigger picture for our clients.
What we really do is act as the IT team for small businesses, typically anywhere from 3 to 200 users. We maintain their computers, keep systems updated, solve problems when they come up, help protect their business, and most importantly, help them accomplish their goals through technology.
Alabama Safari Park is a great example.
They had a previous company come in and use wireless mesh equipment to connect multiple buildings across the property. Wireless mesh has its place. It can work great for things like extending Wi-Fi to a hard-to-reach corner of a building where you only have power outlets.
But when you are trying to connect 4 or 5 buildings across a large campus, browse the internet, and stream security cameras across that wireless network, mesh is usually not the best fit.
The rule of thumb with mesh is that every wireless hop can cut your available speed significantly. On top of that, the access points are trying to do multiple jobs at once: connect users, handle wireless traffic, authenticate devices, and pass traffic between buildings.
For this project, we are installing dedicated building-to-building bridges. These are specialized devices designed specifically to move network traffic from one building to another with better performance, better stability, and a cleaner network design.
I’m not saying the previous setup was “wrong.” I’m saying for this client’s specific needs, there was a better solution.
And that is what we pride ourselves on at Viral-Technology.
We are not here to throw equipment at a problem, make a quick buck, and hope it works well enough.
We want to understand the client’s needs, design the right solution, and deliver something that actually solves the problem.
Our goal is simple:
Undersell. Overdeliver. And make technology work for the business, not against it.
