Most of the time, the only difficult part of a backsplash is everything you have to cut around.

For us, the simplest thing to do is use the surrounding tiles to locate our cut, then transfer the marks using painter’s tape. These handmade tiles have a glossy finish that won’t take a pencil mark—and we’re definitely not covering them in Sharpie.

Mark it. Cut it. Stick it.

Handmade tile looks great, but those uneven edges make every tight fit a little more interesting.

We’re scribing and cutting these backsplash tiles individually to follow the corner and keep the finished edge as tight and clean as possible.

This is the kind of detail you’ll see every day once the kitchen is finished.

Sometimes the cut gets you close. The fit gets you finished.

As we install the quarter round, we’re taking a little extra time at the corners. The hand trim cutter gets us close, then a little coping with the belt sander tightens everything up before it gets nailed in place.

Small detail. Big difference in the finished trim.

Backsplash is going up.

These handmade tiles have naturally uneven, wavy edges, so we’re keeping the laser level on them as we stack each row to make sure everything stays lined up. The first section is installed and ready for grout.

Sometimes the “normal” way just isn’t the best way.

The continuous hinge wasn’t letting these bi-fold cabinet doors fold back and sit the way we wanted, so we changed the hardware and kept dialing them in.

Now both sets open, fold, and stack exactly like they’re supposed to.

So close to seeing these faux beams lit up.

The new MLINK fixtures are installed, and the 4-way circuit and dimmer are wired and ready to go BUT, we’re just missing one small piece—the splice adapters that link the fixtures together.

Once we get those adapters, we can finish connecting everything and finally light these beams up.

Good as new!
The customer called to report that the ceiling in their garage collapsed onto the garage door. New drywall was installed and textured to seamlessly match the existing finish.
