We are seeing a lot of clients coming in after clicking on EVITE emails. It seems to be running through Pawleys Island.

These are scam emails that will immediately hack into your email accounts and install remote software. It will then start sending the EVITE scams to your friends and family in your email contacts.

SCAMMERS ARE USING AGENCY STAFF NAMES

Scam artists are calling local residents, claiming to be Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office personnel collecting fines for missed jury duty.

The callers claim they are Sheriff's Office staff and say the person who answered the phone missed their jury duty date. They threaten arrest and incarceration if they are not paid a fine.

The scammers appear legitimate at first because the calls show up on targets’ telephone as coming from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. They are illegally spoofing the GCSO number to hide their true identity.

No law enforcement agency will ever collect fines by telephone. Anyone receiving calls from people claiming to be law officers should hang up and call Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 546-5102
