Myth vs. Reality: too small.

- Myth: "We're too small to be a target."
- Reality: most attacks don't begin with someone choosing a company. They begin with automated tools scanning the internet for an open door: an unpatched system, an exposed login page, a reused password.

Size doesn't decide who gets found. Being easy does.

The good news is that the same is true in reverse. A few consistent habits take most organizations off the easy list.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This year's advice fits in one sentence: don't make it easy for them.

Most cyberattacks succeed because something simple was left open. Four habits close most of those doors, at work and at home:
1. Use a different password for every account, and let a password manager remember them.
2. Turn on multifactor authentication wherever it is offered.
3. Install updates when they arrive.
4. Pause before you click, and check unexpected requests another way.
