Sound familiar? The same password on email, the bank portal and the scheduling software, because it's the one everyone remembers.

Here's the uncomfortable part for Cybersecurity Awareness Month: if that one password leaks anywhere, every account that shares it is exposed.

Two fixes make the biggest difference for St. Augustine businesses. Give every account its own strong password, kept in a password manager. Then turn on multi-factor authentication, so a stolen password alone isn't enough to get in.

AI is creating tremendous opportunities for businesses. It’s also creating new cybersecurity risks.

That was one of my biggest takeaways from our cybersecurity partner Sophos at the TLIT Owners Summit.

Sophos highlighted three emerging areas businesses need to understand: attackers using AI, attacks targeting AI systems, and attacks against the AI supply chain itself.

Why does that matter to a small or midsized business?

As tools like Microsoft Copilot and other AI platforms become connected to email, documents, cloud applications and business data, organizations need to think about what information those systems can access, who can use them, and how that access is protected.

The answer isn’t avoiding AI.

It’s adopting AI with the right security, policies and governance around it.

That’s part of how our role at TeamLogic IT is evolving, helping businesses take advantage of new technology while understanding and managing the risks that come with it.

Your business may already be using AI even if you haven’t officially adopted it.

That was one of the statistics that caught my attention during the Pax8 presentation at the TeamLogic IT Owners Summit.

Pax8 shared that roughly 80% of small-business employees are already using AI, while only 15% of small businesses have an AI-use policy. They also highlighted the growing issue of “Shadow AI, employees using AI tools without their organization’s knowledge or oversight.

The takeaway for business owners isn’t to prohibit AI. It’s to manage it.

Understand which tools your employees are using, establish guidelines for what information can and cannot be shared, and look for opportunities where AI can legitimately improve productivity and automate repetitive work.

This is one of the reasons our role at TeamLogic IT continues to evolve. IT isn’t just about managing computers anymore. We’re helping businesses navigate technology, cybersecurity and now AI in a way that makes sense for their organization.

AI is changing IT, but I think the bigger story is how it’s going to change business.

That’s been one of my biggest takeaways from this year’s TLIT Owners Summit.

We’ve spent a lot of time discussing how AI can help businesses automate repetitive work, identify inefficiencies and give employees better tools to get work done.

But I’ve also been impressed by how TeamLogic IT is evolving around it.

People First. AI Forward. Outcome Driven.

That means AI isn’t the objective. Better business outcomes are.

Our role as Technology Advisors is evolving beyond managing computers, networks and help desk. We’re increasingly looking at the entire business, technology, cybersecurity, workflows, productivity and where AI and automation can create meaningful improvements.

And we’re doing that with the resources and shared knowledge of the broader TeamLogic IT network behind us.

There’s a lot I’m looking forward to bringing back to our clients and businesses in Flagler County.
