Critical update for all AVP-Legion products:

It has been discovered that a recent update for Windows 10 build 22H2 may cause earlier versions of Legion to freeze at the moment a playlist is launched.

It is strongly recommend that all users perform updates on all your copies. In most cases, if the computer is connected to the internet, every time Legion II or EC is launch it searches for any updates. However, if you are not seeing any notifications, please go to the Legion categories within you Windows start menu and click on “Check for Updates”.

Another plus to updating are the new functions that automatically add all needed network rules into Windows firewall exceptions during installation. So, no more annoying “Allow app through firewall” prompts. Plus, another one that automatically sets the proper flags to tell Windows to always use the high performance/discrete GPU if the computer is equipped with more than one GPU. (e.g., most laptops) Note if you see the prompt telling you it has done you will also be asked to restart Legion which it will do for you.

We apologize for having to do another update but development for Legion project is always ongoing, we continue to find new and better ways of ensuring your experience is the best it can be, in a world were hardware and software technology never stops changing.

As always… Have a great show!

Legion II has undergone a major evolution. Its entire core engine technology has been re-invented from the ground up. AVP Legion is almost here!

We realize you haven’t heard from us in quite some time. but there is a good reason. For the last nine months we have been totally immersed in the development of our next generation of video playout solutions…

Legion II is a direct replacement to our current L1 version. But unlike the usual application updates, Legion is an entirely new, from the ground up build. Luckily though, Legion II looks a lot like L1 and is laid out in much the same way but that is where the similarity ends. Here are just few the new features now available in Legion II:

Add live video and/or audio capture as well as NDI sources directly to the playlist and play them just like any other asset.
Stream PGM out directly to Decklink SDI and/or NDI at the same time.

Simultaneously output a PGM clone and even set it up to be a separate alpha channel for downstream cut and fill keying. You can do this both with the HDMI/DP outputs or SDI from a Decklink card.

Mix and match an assets video and/or audio sources. Now you can add music to a still image, replace a video’s audio with a separate set of tracks from another file or live capture, merge camera feed with a live microphone and so on.

Aside from cut and crossfade there are now ten additional transition effects. You can even set the in and out transition types to be a different effect.
Eleven visual shader effects such as alpha and/or chroma key, proc adjustments, grayscale, etc. As well as fully animated effects like revolving sphere and a distressed old movie look.

Support for multi-track audio (up to 16) using ASIO either USB to devices such as Tascam or PreSonus or embedded in an SDI stream outputted using Decklink.

Any playlist asset can assign up to two other assets to be used as an overlay. You can trigger them manually or set them to automatically play after a predetermined delay and/or stop after a set duration. Set the overlay asset’s shader to either the alpha or chroma key and have transparency support.

As in L1 you can still broadcast, over a network, the current running timecode to our free to distribute AV-Timecode Display app, but now you can also output a real LTC audio stream to trigger lighting desks or any other device that accepts an LTC signal. All without needing to render it into a separate audio track.

Create multiple independent clusters of linked assets instead of just one like in previous versions.

Improved handling of display outputs. It now compensates for displays that may be mis-aligned with each other in Windows display config including when they are stacked vertically and/or rotated. Fulltime monitoring of any changes that might occur in the display layout (repositioning, resolution change, etc.) and automatically readjust the assets pixelspace geometry. The same monitoring can safely handle a disconnection of the output without crashing the app along with making sure the PGM pixelspace doesn’t end up falling onto your primary desktop, forcing you to perform a hard computer shutdown. It even goes as far as detecting if there are any other non-primary desktop displays available and move the program to that display automatically.

There are also major improvements to the timeline control as well as the ability to scale the size of all asset thumbnails making it easier to see more of your playlist items with scrolling up and down.

Again, these are just a few of the numerous enhancements that have been added. More importantly all the internal code has been painstakingly reviewed to provide the highest-level of stability. In fact, Legion II has undergone far more rigorous debugging and pre-testing than any other app we had previously offered. This initial release may still be in beta, but I feel confident that even this version would perform confidently in most real-world situations.
Now for the best part… Legion II will be a FREE upgrade for all current L1 and V2 license holders.

I invite customers as well anyone else who would like to participate in further beta testing to email us at [email protected] and we will send you a link to download a fully functioning trial version. Please be sure to tell us your profession and what type of event you would be looking to use it on. Also, keep in mind that that the computer must have at least Windows 10 (build 20H1 or greater) or better yet Windows 11. We ask that while evaluating, you maintain a connection to the internet, that way, if a crash occurs, the report can be sent to us easily.

It is not necessary, but it would also help if the computer had an additional display attached to it. Be sure it is set to show an expanded desktop not a mirrored one.

NOTE: This beta version does not contain any help documents yet, however, there are numerus tool tips that provide a description of most controls when you hover the mouse over it.

New update for AVP L1 (1.4.6.5)

Corrected issues that contributed to difficulties users experienced when attempting to create a Stream Deck configuration in a new blank playlist. The problem would prevent the selection of any buttons directly after clicking the Enable button and before saving the configuration. Only after the user clicked Save and then reopened the setup utility were they able to select a button and program it. Now, directly after enabling and establishing a connection, you can begin proper programing of Stream Deck buttons.

Also added safeguards to prevent errors that can occur if after selecting an asset to preview using the Stream Deck and then pressing a PGM Play button before the file has a chance to be fully buffered. This issue was more prevalent when running AVP with pre-buffering disabled.

To update your copies, first ensure the computer is connected to the internet, close all instances of AVP and then simply go to the “AV-Playback_L1” start menu group and select “Check For Updates”.

Check out our newest FREE app, AV-Key!

AV-Key is a versatile windowless utility that enables you to remotely control applications that do not offer any native way to control them remotely. Thankfully though, most do allow the triggering of actions via keyboard short keys, this is where AV-KEY steps in, acting as a bridge. AV-KEY listens for commands received via Ethernet and converts them into keystrokes. Now when any program on the receiving computer has keyboard focus, the keystrokes emulated by AV-KEY are received just as if it was typed directly on the keyboard.

You can even have multiple instances listening on different computers at the same time enabling synchronized control of supporting and/or backup instances of an application.

Sending commands to an AV-KEY listener is possible from any app that can transmit UDP network packets such as Companion. If Companion is used, you can take advantage of the fact that it already contains a module for controlling AV-Key. AV-KEY can translate those commands into one’s PowerPoint understands, making programing a snap.

Another way to transmit commands is from AV-KEY itself. When an instance is placed in “Repeater (Master)” mode, keys typed locally are broadcast and can be received by any other instances set to “Repeater (Slave)”. You don't even need to use your keyboard. AV-KEY hears keystrokes generated by a DSAN Perfect Cue or even UPR (Universal Presenter Remote).

AV_KEY is offered in two versions, FREE to use and a paid PLUS version. Features do vary between the two. In the free version you are limited to only having two instances running on the same network at a time. If the number is exceeded, all instances will become disabled until excess ones are closed. However, the “Plus” version can have an unlimited number of instances active at a time.
