Most guys set their Google Business Profile category once, pick the broadest thing on the list, and never look at it again.

That one setting decides which searches you show up for.

Pick "General Contractor" and you're in a pile with every builder, remodeler and handyman in the county. Pick "Deck Builder" and you show up for the person typing "deck builder near me" with a pile of rotten boards in their backyard.

Fewer searches. Way better calls.

Set your primary category to the job you actually want more of. Then load the rest of your services in as secondary categories so you still show up for those.

I check this on almost every site I look at, and it's wrong more often than you'd think. The number is sitting there as plain text. On a laptop you'd never notice. On a phone it's a dead end.

Someone with a busted water heater is not going to memorize your number and dial it manually. They're going back to Google and calling the next guy.

It takes about two minutes to fix.

Nobody searches for "quality workmanship."

They search for "drain cleaning Orem" or "AC repair near me."

But most service business homepages still lead with something like "Quality work you can trust since 2009."

Google can't rank that, and a customer skimming on their phone still doesn't know what you do or if you cover their town.

Your headline needs three things:

1. The service you actually want more of
2. The city or area you serve
3. What happens when they call

Like this: "Same day drain cleaning in Orem. Call before 3 and we're out today."

Boring beats clever. Clear beats both.

Dylan built Canyon Garage Doors on word of mouth alone. That works until it doesn't.

He runs garage door installs and repairs in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Good work, solid reputation, nothing online backing any of it up. So anyone who heard his name and went looking found nothing.

So if your website is hard to read on mobile, has tiny buttons, or takes forever to load, you are losing those people before they ever see your number.

Most of them will not wait. They will just hit the back button and call the next guy.

Your website has a contact form. That is great.

But is it the only way someone can reach you?

A lot of service business owners set up a form, figure that covers it, and move on. The problem is that forms create a delay. Someone fills it out, then waits. Meanwhile they open another tab and call the next guy on the list.

People searching for an electrician or a plumber are usually not browsing. They have a problem right now. A form that says "we will get back to you within 24 hours" is not going to cut it.

Your form can stay. It is useful for certain people. But it should never be the main way to contact you. A phone number needs to be visible without scrolling. On every page. Especially on mobile.

If someone has to hunt for your number, most of them will not bother.
