Scam Alert!
There is a new and very convincing scam going around. I received it this morning in my email.
The email comes from [email protected] which is PayPal's legitimate email service. The email states that a service (in my case Trust Wallet) is billing you for a large amount of money. It has a "Seller Note to customer" section where the scammer can send you a note. In the note it will give you a phone number you can call to "dispute" the charge. When you call that number, they will lie to you and attempt to con you out of money.
DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER!
I called the number to verify my suspicions before posting about it here. I found that they are posing as PayPal support, but the number was provided by the seller, not PayPal. I was able to verify that he is definitely a scammer and not a PayPal employee.
If you own a PayPal account, do NOT click on any link in the Email. Instead, go to PayPal.com, scroll down to the bottom and click "Contact". Scroll down and click "Call Us" or "Message Us". It will have you sign in to your PayPal account. By going directly to paypal.com, you know you are speaking with the real PayPal support and can verify that the invoice will not affect your account.
The email will look something like this:
