We won a pitch competition. Got into Techstars. Doubled MRR three months in a row.

And one of our pilot shops hit a 404% increase in direct web traffic just by letting Service Stories do what it does.

It was the streak we'd been building toward without knowing it. And it proved something we'd suspected from the start: when a business has real jobs, real experience, and real documentation β€” AI pays attention.

Chapter 5 of our founding story is live. The full timeline, the numbers, and what it felt like when the room finally got it. Link in comments πŸ‘‡

We're going to be honest with you about something.

You don't need Service Stories to create AI-optimized content for your shop. You can do it yourself with ChatGPT. So we wrote the full guide showing exactly how.

The prompts work. The tools are available and affordable. If you have the time and the discipline, you can absolutely build this yourself.

Here's what the math actually looks like though:
1. One shop, one blog post a week takes about 2 hours and costs around $730 a month when you factor in your own time.
2. A full content strategy across blogs, social media, and Google Business is closer to 10 hours a week and $3,000 a month.
3. A 10-location operation doing this right needs 2 to 3 full-time employees just for content.

Most shop owners start strong, get busy, and fall off by month two. The writing isn't the hard part. The editing, the uploading, the scheduling, the doing it again next week, that's what gets people.

That's the problem Service Stories was built to solve. We launch publicly in April.

Full guide is linked in the comments. Try it yourself if you want. We wrote it because we'd rather you have the information than not.

The window to get ahead of AI search is open right now. It won't be forever. ⏳

Customers used to Google "auto repair near me." Now they ask AI things like "Why is my AC blowing hot air when it's set to 62?" and AI answers with a specific recommendation.

With 2.5 billion+ people asking AI questions every week, the shops that have published content answering those questions are winning customers before anyone else even knows there's a lead. The shops that haven't published that content don't show up at all.

AI is still deciding who the authorities are in every local market. The shops that act now lock in that authority. The ones that wait will find it a lot harder to catch up.

Joe Toscano is bringing this message to next week come hear it.

There are two completely different marketing problems an auto repair shop can have, and most shops are buying software for the wrong one.

Retention marketing keeps existing customers coming back. Text reminders, review requests, follow-up campaigns. Tekmetric, Shopmonkey, AutoLeap, Shop-Ware all do this reasonably well

Growth marketing gets new customers who have never heard of you to show up. Almost nothing on the market does this well right now.

Here's why that distinction matters so much in 2026 specifically: customers aren't just searching Google for "oil change near me" and clicking through to a website anymore. They're asking ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI things like "best shop for European cars in Omaha" or "who fixes transmission slipping near me." If AI doesn't know your shop does that work, you're invisible to an entirely new generation of search behavior.

None of the major shop management platforms are filling that gap. They were built before AI search existed.

We launch Service Stories publicly in April, and I put together a full breakdown of every major marketing platform in the auto repair space, what each one actually does, what problem it's actually solving, and where the gaps are.

If you're a shop owner evaluating your marketing stack heading into the rest of the year, this guide is worth a read before you renew anything.

Eric Ries. Jacob Ward. Elliott Parker. David Bland. Tristan Kromer. These are names that belong on a conference stage, and they're all coming to Lincoln on April 13th.

Service Stories is part of the Gallery of Innovation at IO2026 this year, and we're so excited to be in a room full of people this focused on what's actually next. If you're in the Midwest and you care about innovation, AI, or what the future of business looks like β€” this is your event.

Before Service Stories existed, Joe and his team spent eight months building something else entirely.

It was called LeadFoot Analytics. The idea was to help shop owners understand their own data better, with an AI assistant they could actually talk to instead of staring at spreadsheets.

Some owners loved it. But most didn't bite. Because they weren't worried about understanding their numbers better. They were worried about getting more customers.

That one insight changed everything.

Joe went back to Gateway Auto full-time, focused on growth marketing, and started digging into something he'd wanted to crack for years: turning the shop's real work orders into content that could bring in new business. Thousands of repair tickets, each one a unique story. A specific car, a specific problem, a specific fix. Already documented. Just sitting there.

That was the moment Service Stories was born.

We launch publicly in April, and this is Part 3 of the founding story, the chapter where the failure becomes the foundation.

Google just shipped something most business owners won't hear about for another year or two.

It's called WebMCP. And the easiest way to explain it is this:

Right now, when an AI like ChatGPT or Google's AI tries to read your website, it has to figure things out the hard way. Screenshots, code parsing, a lot of guesswork. It's like sending someone to learn about your shop by wandering around it blindfolded.

WebMCP lets your website publish a clear, structured description of what you do, directly readable by AI agents. Early data shows it cuts the cost of that interaction by 67%.

Google and Microsoft built this together. When two companies that size co-author a new standard, it becomes a new standard. The businesses that get structured and legible to AI now will hold an advantage competitors will spend years trying to catch up to.

We launched our blog post breaking this down specifically for service businesses, in plain language, no technical background required.

Service Stories goes public in April, built to help businesses stay ahead of exactly these kinds of shifts.
