๐Ÿ’œ A food trailer found on Facebook Marketplace became a thriving Chadron business.

That's how The Wandering Lilac began.

After moving to Nebraska for college, Rylee Greiman saw a gap in the market for healthy food options and decided to meet the need. With the support from family, her community, and NBDC, Rylee grew The Wandering Lilac from food trailer to storefront in downtown Chadron.

Even better? The business is named after Rylee's grandmothers who taught her the value of hard work, optimism, and perseverance.

Family businesses aren't just businesses

They are livelihoods, legacies, and often a source of pride when passed on to the next generation.

But here's the thing many owners don't realize: a successful family business transition often takes 5-10 years of planning.

In his latest Omaha Magazine guest column, NBDC's Odee Ingersoll shares practical advice on preparing your business, successors, and family for the future.

- Start planning early
- Prepare future leaders
- Strengthen the business financially
- Protect family relationships along the way

That encouragement sparked the beginning of The Vine, Jennifer Prince's specialty plant shop, which opened it's doors in April 2026 in North Platte's Historic Canteen District.

"Jennifer transformed a personal passion into a business that is already making an impact in downtown North Platte," said Moraine Davis-Magnuson.

โœจ Behind every successful project is someone helping keep the wheels turning, and for SourceLink Nebraska this spring, that was Sam Williams!

This spring, Sam joined NBDC as a SourceLink Nebraska intern and quickly became a key asset to our team. Her primary project was taking the lead on our three-part 'Pop-Up & Profit' workshop series.

When Bret Wade founded BW Lawn Sprinklers in 1994, he started with little more than an old pickup truck, decades of irrigation experience, and a relentless work ethic. Over the next thirty years, Wade built more than a lawn sprinkler company. He built relationships.

In working with SBDC's Consultant, Elyse Whittemore, BW Lawn Sprinklers now looks forward to carrying a 30-year legacy forward.
