Once again users of Microsoft Windows Servers were under attack. There is a new attack that goes after Domain Controllers. It is a credential-stealing attack. We wanted to alert everyone as soon as we became aware of it. We want you to know that about 80% of the successful penetrations of ransomware have occurred through phishing attacks. If you don't have a phishing defense, it is time. Phishing attacks are up 300% from six months ago. Contact Daniel Wiseman at Gracon today, we have a quality anti-phishing solution!

Wow, it's been awhile. A very serious security update for you that work in the K-12 institutions. You are now a new target for the ransomware bandits. They have targeted the K-12 schools to exploit remote access, plant the "payload" in the form of powershell scripts and let the dirty work start. This attack gains lateral movement throughout the network using such tools as Remote Desktop Protocol and PsExec. This remote access attack (RAT), is called ChaChi. It also uses port scanning to look for vulnerable or open ports. ChaChi is installed as a service. Make sure you are aware of phishing attacks and what they look like. Use my motto, "if in doubt, throw it out", if an email look suspicious. IT should make sure all of computers have their operating systems patched and up-to-date with endpoint anti-virus and malware software installed. The hackers are always working on variants and new ways to get your credentials and data. Stay vigil my friends!

There has been a direct shift on the focus of the ransomware folks. We have seen direct evidence of it and heard of some very large companies "hit" by crypto-locker. Remind the employees, friends and family to increase their vigilance. Be mindful to impart this to those that are techno-phobic in our sphere of influence. "When it doubt, throw it out" is the motto of the seasons this year. Here is an article that reflects what I am talking about:

"Driven by the profits to be achieved via ransomware, most botnet operators have dropped banking Trojans in favor of supporting and running crypto-locking malware attacks, according to security experts who spoke Wednesday at cybersecurity firm Group-IB's CyberCrimeCon 2020 virtual conference."

Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving! 2020 has been a challenge on all levels and we have our Health Care workers, Doctors, first responders and a long list of very special people to thank.

It's been a while since our last post so I thought I would bring you up-to-date with the latest from the security attack vector! There are two things that have amped up specifically. The first is spammers asking for shipment verification. The second misleading attack is spammers asking you, the end-users, to update your passwords.

They make both of these look VERY legitimate but, when you look at the origin of the email, (we call it the email header), they aren't legitimate at all. So take your time, read your email, if it sounds fishy, it probably is phishy!!! Report the email(s) to IT and delete it immediately.

Gracon has security monitoring services now for all of IT. We have modules specific for M365, O365, email, etc. We have cloud backup that is encrypted in transit and at rest. We can help you and your organization tighten up security on-premise or in the cloud. There isn't much we can't help you with when it comes to security.

Contact Dan Wiseman ([email protected]) or Mike Grady ([email protected]). We will be happy to meet with you in person or remotely to discuss how we assist your organization today. 517-349-4900. Thanks and stay well!!!

It's been awhile for those that are kind enough to be reading this. Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all current and past employees for making it possible for one many to fulfill a life long dream. Gracon turns 38 today, starting our 39th year in operations. Life is good! Count your blessings, I am. THANK YOU customers and prospects!

It's been awhile, but the bad "guys" never sleep. The latest trick out is to warn you of an expiring password. Make sure you look at the email and who it is from. Most likely it won't be from who they are warning you about. For example, I just got a warning about my Microsoft O365 account, but it wasn't from Microsoft. They are trying to steal your login and password credentials. The same trick is used to confirm a shipment. Be careful out there. Attacks have increased from the "dark web"......

Wow what a wake up call!!! We continue to reach out to our customers to help them where and how we can. Our staff has strict guidelines based upon CDC recommendations of what to do to prepare to come onsite for technical services. We treat your business as our own. Stay well!

We hope this post finds you and yours, healthy and secure in your new work environment called remote access. It is even more important now to secure those devices that are personally owned. The attack vector for ransomware, phishing, etc., has shifted from corporate to household. We continue to stand behind the Sophos Home product as a good start in securing devices. There are a variety of easy and inexpensive methods to secure a small business or organization and, enable remote access to important information. The security "net" has extended, from office central to remote office and mobile working. Contact Dan Wiseman ([email protected]) or Mike Grady ([email protected]), today.
