On July 26th, the voted to adopt new rules on , requiring public companies to disclose any cybersecurity incident that could impact the business’ bottom line within four business days of discovery. The new rules go into effect on December 1, 2023.

Following this announcement, we expect the finalized rules and regulations for advisors and funds to be imminent, consisting of a streamlined version of the proposed changes in 2022, but not as streamlined as detractors of the 2022 proposal had hoped.

A new generative AI chatbot tool called has been circulating underground forums as a way for cybercriminals to launch sophisticated phishing and business email compromise (BEC) attacks on a larger scale than ever before. Unlike or Google’s Bard, WormGPT does not have any restrictions to stop it from responding to ill-natured requests.

When opening an email, don't rely on obvious spelling or grammar mistakes as flags for phishing:
Look for slight changes like substituting a 1 for a lowercase l
Enable multi-factor authentication for all email accounts
Add a banner to email messages coming from outside your organization
Enable security features that block malicious email and provide alerts for suspicious behavior in emails
Mouse over email addresses to ensure you recognize the company the message is coming from.
