After seven years of incredible projects around the world, we are signing off. Commander Levinger is returning to his roots in space science and geographic nerdery, joining the team at Impact Observatory as a full-stack engineer. He will be working on their mapping platform covering global land use, climate change and biodiversity. We will continue to support our open source activism code, but will no longer be accepting new client work.

Onward, to the stars.

At the beginning of their annual Signal conference, Twilio CEO took a minute to mention our work supporting Black Lives Matter actions with the open source activism technology CallPower. Thank you Jeff for lifting up this movement.

Great to work with Twilio.org on this guide for designing call-in campaigns that scale and win. CallPower relies on their service to connect activists to local and national decision-makers, and it's been used heavily over the last few months.

Onward together!

Twilio posts cloud communications trends, customer stories, and tips for building scaleable voice and SMS applications with Twilio's APIs.

May 2020 was a terrible month in America. The ongoing horror of systemic racism and unjust use of force against Black Americans reared again into public visibility, with three high-profile murders which inspired national calls for justice.

CallPower phone numbers run by our partners at ActionPAC placed over 800,000 calls (peaking at 12 calls per second), by far the biggest month of usage for the tool to date. We are proud for the small role our open technology played in these campaigns, and for the trust our partners have placed in us to scale with them in moments of need.

We fully support the movement for Black lives, and the ongoing community and street actions to force this nation to confront our brutality.

Our latest project just went live, and it's already helped 3,000 people make a plan for the midterms, with a 35% conversion rate. We'll be optimizing it further, so we can reach as many people as possible between now and November.

We'll walk you through four ways to help and personalize them just for you

Wow, 2017 was quite a crazy year for us, and the rest of the world. To recap, we:

- expanded CallPower to a dozen organizations, which placed over a million calls to Congress
- continued experimenting with chatbots, and helped Fight for the Future scale their Battle for the Net messaging tools
- provided emergency technical support or coverage for four organizations during vacations or staff transitions
- gave talks or small group presentations at 4 conferences
- launched OpenSourceActivism.tech to try and broaden the conversation about the ownership of political technology and activism tools

The world hasn’t ended yet. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to saving it.

Great profile of our friends at Fight For The Future, putting the protests into the larger struggle for control of the internet.

Those 800,000 calls were made with our CallPower tool, and we are scaling up for one more push before the FCC vote on 12/12. Join us at BattleForTheNet.com and tell Congress that we care about our internet!

Fight for the Future, a scrappy 10-person nonprofit, has helped lead the uproar against changes to internet rules, including hundreds of protests on Thursday.

Back from CubaConf 2017, where we learned from Cuba’s free/libre and open source software community about how they build technology, and to explore their current opportunities and struggles in a changing environment.
