Nicole stepping in for a minute. ❤️

Most of you know my brother as “Screwdriver” from Bells CB. His name is Carle, but in this community, he’s been Screwdriver to almost everyone for years.

He still doesn’t know I’m posting this, but after reading through the comments from people in the CB community, I realized something.

I know many of you have Bells CB and “Screwdriver” stories that he has probably never heard.

Some of you drove across states to meet him.
Some of you spent hours on the phone while he talked you through a problem.
Some of you had a radio everyone else gave up on, and he got it working again.
Some of you may even remember his dogs being nearby while he worked, because anyone who knows Screwdriver knows how much his animals mean to him too.

I’d love to collect those stories.

If Screwdriver has ever helped you — whether you know him as Carle, Screwdriver, or Bells CB — would you share your story in the comments?

Pictures are welcome too. Old shop photos, radios he worked on, truck stop memories, keydowns, or anything that brings back memories.

Handles too, OMG I forgot to ask for handles !!!!

My hope is that when all of this is behind us, I’ll be able to sit Carle down and show him something much bigger than a Facebook post. I want to show him the incredible community he has spent decades building, one story at a time.

He’s still working and still cares deeply about every radio and every customer. Right now, what would help most is a little grace on turnaround times while he works through the backlog and gets caught up.

If you know someone Screwdriver helped over the years who may not see this, please tag them or send this to them.

Thank you for helping me remind my brother how many lives he has touched.

❤️ Nicole

Alright guys, I just stumbled onto a use for AI that every tech who’s stared at a faded schematic or a water-damaged label needs to see.

I had a folded piece of paper holding one of my kids teeth—completely faded ink from over 20 years ago. I could see the physical indentations (pressure marks) where the pen hit the paper, but couldn't make out the name. I ran it through Gemini, and by asking it to use edge-detection filters and contrast-stretching, it pulled the name "Alyssa" right out of the grain of the paper.

Why this matters for us at the Tech Bench:
How many times have we looked at:
---A "shadow" of a part number on a thermal-damaged board?
---A faded, hand-written mod note inside an old Cobra or Ranger?
---A torn schematic where the ink is gone but the pen "groove" is still there?

If you can get a high-res photo of the "ghosting" or the pressure marks, this AI can decipher it. It’s basically a digital magnifying glass that understands context. Definitely adding this to my troubleshooting arsenal for the shop.
