Tech Support Scam Alert: How Twin Cities Residents Can Spot It

The tech support scam is circulating again in the Twin Cities. Fake “Microsoft,” bank, or “virus” messages (and sometimes messages that even claim to be us) push you to act right now — grant remote access, send gift cards, or click a shady link.

We’ve seen clients come in after the damage was already done. The good news? These scams are easy to spot once you know the red flags.

In our latest post we cover the five clearest warning signs, a simple bonus tip for verifying phone numbers, and exactly what to do if you think you’ve already been targeted:

Questions? Call or text us anytime at (612) 234-7237. We’re here to help — no judgment.

Is your desktop so full of icons you can’t see the wallpaper anymore?

Screenshots from 2019, seventeen versions of the same résumé, and a “misc” folder that’s somehow 40 GB… sound familiar?

No judgment—we see it all the time. Digital clutter isn’t laziness; it’s usually just life moving fast. But it can quietly slow your computer, make backups riskier, hide real problems, and add a low-level stress you don’t even notice.

Our latest blog post walks you through a gentle, no-shame cleanup: triage, use the folders Windows already gave you, lean on search, back up first, and set a quick monthly tidy.

Your computer (and your brain) will thank you.

🚨 New Cyber Threat Alert for All Windows Users – "ClickFix" Attacks Are Surging! 🚨

Hey PsinergyTech community! Just saw this important warning making the rounds, and it's something everyone browsing the web needs to know about right now.

It's called ClickFix — one of the fastest-growing social engineering attacks in cybersecurity. Hackers compromise legitimate websites (WordPress plugins, outdated CMS, etc.), inject sneaky JavaScript, and wait.

When you visit:
• The site looks completely normal.
• A fake CAPTCHA (Cloudflare-style) pops up.
• Instead of traffic lights or puzzles, it tells you to press Win + R, paste a command, and hit Enter.

That "simple fix" installs a keylogger, infostealer, or remote access trojan. Your antivirus often misses it because you ran the command yourself on what seems like a trusted site.

Stats are wild: Activity up 517% in 2025. Hundreds of education and tech sites hit in big campaigns, with one variant alone infecting over 147k systems.

Golden Rule to Stay Safe:
• A real CAPTCHA never asks you to leave your browser.
• Never asks you to open the Run box (Win+R).
• Never asks you to paste and run a command.

If you see it — close the tab immediately! No hesitation.

At PsinergyTech, we help folks clean up after these kinds of messes, secure their systems, and get back online safely (including full malware removal, system hardening, and peace of mind). Don't wait until it's too late!

Share this with your friends and family — especially anyone who shops, banks, or browses a lot online. Knowledge is the best defense.
