β€’ Meeting called to order by Chairperson/Committee Member Eric Hauser at 9:30 a.m. CST / 10:30 a.m. EST.

Approval of Minutes
β€’ May 29, 2026, Oak Grove Playground Committee Meeting minutes were approved.

Wades Way City Park
Update/Discussion on Water Utilities and Proposed Water Fountain
β€’ Committee Vice Chairperson Jean Leavell was expected to provide an update following discussions with Utilities; however, the committee is awaiting additional information from her.
β€’ Field Operations Manager Brandy Moore reported that a water line is located near the fire hydrant at Wades Way and extends along the roadway.
β€’ Moore advised the committee to research regulations related to outdoor drinking fountains, including requirements associated with water boil advisories and public health standards.
β€’ Moore also noted that ADA requirements necessitate the installation of two drinking fountains, including one accessible to individuals with disabilities.
Update/Discussion on Establishing a Shaded Break Area
β€’ Committee Member John Campbell discussed the possibility of creating a shaded area behind the basketball court using a canvas shade structure and referenced ideas presented at a previous meeting.
β€’ Committee discussed the possibility of utilizing any remaining surplus funds for the project.
Update/Discussion on Expanding the Parking Lot
β€’ Committee discussed options for expanding the parking area, including grading and adding gravel.
β€’ Finance Director Matt Egbert answered questions regarding budget considerations associated with the project.
β€’ Committee discussed general costs associated with gravel installation and whether the work would be completed by city staff or contracted services.
β€’ Matter was tabled for future discussion.
Update/Discussion on Automated/Remote-Access Locks for Restrooms and Revised Park Rental Agreement
β€’ Committee discussed the possibility of installing automated or remote-access locking systems for park restrooms.
β€’ It was noted that the park currently does not have Wi-Fi service and that implementation costs would be several hundred dollars.
β€’ Committee agreed the city will not pursue remote-access locks at this time.
β€’ Mayor Jackie Oliver stated that the park should remain available for public use and should not be rented for private events because it is funded by taxpayers.
β€’ Committee Member John Campbell clarified that any proposed rentals would be limited to exclusive events and private parties.
β€’ Chairperson Eric Hauser stated that there are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches and noted that some individuals already decline to rent the Community Center due to cost, making it unlikely that park rentals would generate significant revenue.
β€’ Committee Member John Campbell stated that rentals could provide an additional source of revenue for the city.
β€’ Committee Member Janet Edwards suggested that renting the fields could be beneficial if the city retains a portion of the rental proceeds.
β€’ Rental agreement including rental pricing was moved to the July Committee of the Whole Meeting. ________________________________________
Fire Station Playground
Update/Discussion on Closure, Demolition, and Possible Relocation of Playground
β€’ Mayor Jackie Oliver will have city employees demolish the existing hazardous playground.
β€’ The city is considering not constructing a replacement playground at the site due to safety concerns and potential liability issues associated with its proximity to the Fire Station.
β€’ Committee Member Janet Edwards suggested the possibility of converting the area into a dog park with membership-based access.
β€’ Committee Member John Campbell expressed concerns regarding the safety and well-being of dogs because of the Fire Station's operations and location.
β€’ Committee Member Janet Edwards inquired whether any Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) provisions would affect the demolition of park facilities.
