DESIGN ◆ Business cards for the wonderful Diana Hickey 🏆🏋️‍♀️🏃‍♀️ When I spoke with Diana, it was clear just how passionate she is about helping people make healthy and affordable lifestyle changes. I decided a custom pattern was the best way to summarize the many skills at her disposal (and included her signature baseball cap, for a personal touch). These elements can also be easily incorporated into headers, profile pictures, and highlight reels, should she decide to expand her personal branding further. LOGO DESIGN ◆ What’s everyone been up to this summer? I’ve been having a blast working on this project for 40Phenom, a brand all about connecting entrepreneurs interested in business *and* fitness. This logo needed to capture the strength and energy of its cause and have a variation that’d look striking on team t-shirts. I chose a typeface that could lean both sporty and corporate and an italic font to imply forward momentum.

Follow to learn more about this project from concept to ex*****on, this wolf wasn’t the first mascot we tried! 🫢🐺 And thank you to 40Phenom for reaching out, there’s nothing better than working with someone this excited about their business!

WHAT YOU DIDN’T SEE ◆ In my last reel, I showed you what the design process looks like on my end. But I believe that the most successful projects are a collaborative effort—so how do I keep the client involved? Here’s how I work with you to design a product like this:

🤝 First, we discuss your business goals and intended image. Visuals are a huge help, and in this case I was given an earlier design as a jumping-off point.

✍️ With this information, I put together an initial concept and, once I receive your “okay,” refine the design and work on a variety of layouts and color combinations.

💬 I send these versions over for your feedback and, if applicable, include mock-ups to give you a better idea of the final result. A Joyful Noise planned on releasing a variety of shirt colors, so I had them choose a color scheme for each option along with their favorite front-and-back combination.

👍 Once you’ve made your final selections, I put a Logo Sheet together outlining the exact fonts, colors, and variations you can use across your branding. You also receive a folder containing all the files you need to incorporate your design into your future projects. Send these materials to your favorite print shop and you’re good to go!

Rare Sass Boutique had big plans for their grand opening…when the pandemic hit. A few months later, Maria reached out to me about helping their plans get back in motion. This involved:

🗺 Full Brand Guidelines:
Consider this the “foundation” of your business; brand guidelines map out the look, voice, and purpose of your brand to ensure consistency across your marketing materials and messaging.
✍️ Custom Graphics:
Sure, stock graphics are easy to use, but investing in custom graphics boosts your brand recognition. Users who love your business will know when to stop scrolling and start reading!
🖼 Social Media Templates:
Having a consistent, recognizable social media presence becomes more and more vital by the day. But as Maria and several other clients have said, “I’m a [insert occupation here], not a designer!” With my fully custom templates, if you can change some text, you can post consistently.
🏷 Printable Templates:
Same as the above, these custom sign, tag, and take-home card templates allow you to bring your brand from screen to store.

ILLUSTRATION ⬥ I’m always looking for ways to branch out and gain skills in new areas. So when I was asked if I could make a map for my client to track her camping destinations, I said, “I’d love to try!“

We decided to include symbols that represent different areas and attractions in Michigan. Finding landmarks that were both recognizable and could fit within the given space was quite the undertaking, but so satisfying when everything came together! And, not to mention, a great geography lesson 😉💜

PHOTOS OR REELS? ⬥ Which do YOU prefer? 🤔 While Instagram’s CEO had a statistical backing for his move towards video content, some of the platform’s largest creators loudly disagreed. Your audience is unique; that’s why, on top of giving my clients tips based on proven trends, I encourage them to try a variety of post types to see what resonates with their personal following.

It’s as easy as this! Take some content from your newest Reel and post it as a Carousel, and vice versa. Not only does this ensure your content reaches more people, it also gives you an indication of what content YOU should prioritize.
