Today is Local News Day. It is a day where the the essential role local journalism plays in communities is recognized.
And today more than ever local journalism is a community effort. It’s a day we thank the members of the community sharing news with us and all those that make newspapers possible. It’s every picture, every notice and every news item, and every announcement of a community event printed in the pages of a local newspaper, and on their websites. All of that is made possible by the community and for the community.
The Northwood Anchor is made possible by working with many communities to celebrate, highlight and inform those that call our area home, and for those that this is or has been their hometown. Local news doesn’t just mean the city on the front page of our newspaper, it also means every neighboring community that we also call home, and everyone that has considered Northwood and Worth County home.
It’s something we will continue to do and to support. And we welcome the part the community plays. If you have a news item to share, pictures from community events, or something to say in a letter to the editor, please reach out to us at [email protected], on Facebook or by calling 641-324-1051.
You can find us on local store shelves, by subscribing by contacting us at the number above, or online at nwdanchor.com. Thank you!

We have noticed a lot of houses with ice build up on their furnace exhaust. Check your home, check your neighbors. Make sure these exhausts stay clear to prevent Carbon Monoxide build up inside your home.

It’s also a good time to test your Carbon Monoxide detectors and replace batteries.
