When disaster strikes, our Network Disaster Recovery Support Team is ready to spring into action. Made up of volunteers, these are team members from across who step away from their normal roles to help restore connectivity. They recently held a training session in Texas with Travis Profitt, National Director for Network Disaster Recovery, who told us all about it:
βThe equipment and processes we use for disaster response is always evolving. Training gives us the opportunity to learn new skills and practice established ones in a controlled environment. It also gives us a chance to train new members to the team. In this session, we trained on various deployable tools to restore service and various emergency response assets.
We are often deployed to areas that have minimal or no infrastructure support β like power, food, and water. We bring our own supplies and equipment in so we can be self-sufficient and do our work without placing additional strains on the area. Our support equipment includes bunk and shower trailers, power and emergency communications equipment, and a field kitchen trailer with members of the team trained and certified to prepare meals.β
