Public Service Announcement:

Facebook functions as a public forum, when you create your profile it’s defaulted to "everyone," which means your profile is visible to anyone online. While you can adjust your settings to limit access to just friends, this openness can lead to your account being duplicated by others. If a friend alerts you to a potential hack because they received a friend request from your account, it's often not a hacking incident. Hacked accounts typically show unusual behavior such as posting random content, not sending friend requests.

In reality, your account is likely being duplicated, and someone is impersonating you. Though common, the solution is straightforward. Report the duplicate account by clicking on the profile that sent the friend request, then selecting the three dots next to "add friend" and reporting it as an impersonating account. Facebook will review the report and take appropriate action, usually by deleting the duplicate account. Remain vigilant and safeguard your online identity.
