🗞Not-exactly-breaking-news🗞

EVERYONE and their dog is using AI to write captions these days. I've got no beef with that...overall. I use AI and I sell a custom-AI building service.

Want to know what does give me a hefty dose of AI-cringe? 👀
Captions that sound like they were spit out of a corporate caption vending machine.

AI can most definitely crank out words and help you move a bit faster through your content creation process. But it can't magically understand and capture your brand voice. It can't create human connection. That still has to come from YOU!

AI is a super useful tool, but it has to be trained and intervened with. Strategy is the game-changer. A strong brand personality is the whole entire point!

Most marketers haven't lugged four banquet tables across a middle school lawn in 94° heat just to back up their team. But I have.

Then I went back to Pawsnickety Pets (the holistic pet store I co-own), replied to a 5-star Google review, scheduled our monthly e-newsletter, whipped up a $100 value gift basket for a charity, interviewed a potential new team member, and wiped up a doggy customer's happy p*e off the storeroom floor... all in a couple hour's time.

This isn't a case study. It's my actual day-to-day.

I own & run Create/Captivate, a one-woman marketing studio. I also co-own a thriving click & mortar retail business. So when I talk about retail marketing strategy, I'm not just theorizing... I'm living it. Armed with a mop in one hand and my phone in the other (while recreating a trending reel).

Create/Captivate isn't just marketing. It's marketing from someone who's been behind the counter, under the table, and on the floor... LITERALLY.

Before opening our store 5-ish years ago, I was doing some impactful marketing work.

But owning a retail business too?! It's leveled me up in ways no course or conference ever could. It's given me deep insight into the day-to-day reality of small shops and scrappy teams... THAT'S what makes my strategy work hit different.

Here’s a little dose of loving truth, direct from the Virginia Retail Matters 2025 report:

👉 Businesses who focus their energy on just a few well-chosen platforms see better results than those trying to be everywhere all the time.

Translation? You don’t have to chase every trend or post until you burn out. You just need to show up where it counts and do it with consistency and clarity.

In this video, I’m breaking down how better boundaries around social media can actually boost your impact and protect your peace.

Because the goal is sustainable marketing, not chaos with a Canva subscription. 🫠

Successful marketing isn't a miracle. It's not divine intervention, a lucky viral post, or Mercury finally minding its business.

It's...

👉Clarity
Knowing exactly who you're talking to

👉Consistency
Showing up even when you don't "feel inspired"

👉Connection
Finding fun, creative ways to actually engage with your audience, not just talk at them

That's it. No marketing degree required. No magic wand. Just a strategy that makes sense + actually feels doable.

If you've been waiting for a "sign" to get your social media marketing back on track ... consider this it! 🪧

🤖 AI isn’t just for tech bros and novelty party tricks.

Picture this:
✨ You open a custom-built GPT trained on your brand voice.
✨ You type a simple prompt.
✨ And BOOM! Out comes strategic, on-brand, ready-to-roll content.

And no, I don’t mean “write me a caption” and pray it’s not bland content soup.

I’m talking about a power tool that can:
✅ Plan an entire month of social content based on your strategy, not vibes
✅ Draft email newsletters with subject lines, inbox previews, and visual ideas
✅ Script a Reel intro that actually sounds like your brand

This isn’t ChatGPT roulette. It’s custom, strategic, and built with your unique business in mind.

I’ve been in marketing for almost 20 years.

That means I can spot the chaos in your content strategy faster than your dog hears a cheese wrapper open. 🧀👀

Here are 5 marketing red flags I notice immediately when scoping a business online:
🚩 Every post sounds like someone else (AI or not, it’s giving identity crisis)
🚩 No clear CTA… anywhere
🚩 “We just post when we have a sale” (aka: there is no plan)
🚩 Your content and your actual offers aren’t even on speaking terms
🚩 You can’t explain your strategy because… there isn’t one

None of these make you a failure, but they do mean your marketing needs a tune-up.

No shame. No judgment. Just better strategy, clearer messaging, and content that actually earns attention (and dollars).

👉 Want a quick glow-up without the overwhelm? That’s what I love to do!

Events aren't just vibes, they're visibility on steroids.

An open house is cute. A sold-out doggy ice cream social that raises money for rescue pups, brings in new faces, and makes your business the talk of the town for weeks? That’s strategy!

The difference?
🎯 Intentional planning.
🎯 A crystal clear “why” behind the event.
🎯 And a structure that builds real momentum, not just a sugar rush.

Whether it’s a founder Q&A, a happy hour, or a painting party, here’s the truth:

If you’re hosting events without a plan for what happens after the event…
you’re just throwing parties.

And listen, everyone who knows me, knows I love a good party. But I love visibility and momentum even more.

👉 Need help turning your cute idea into a strategic, scroll-stopping, revenue-boosting moment?
That’s literally what I do. Let's plan something captivating!

🚨 Hot take: you don’t need a viral post. You need a strategy.

Everyone and their brand manager is out here chasing the elusive viral moment, but here’s the truth no one wants to say out loud:

👉 Most business owners wouldn’t even know what to do with the traffic if it landed.

You go viral. Amazing! 🎉
500 fresh new sets of eyes land on your page.
And then what?

If you don’t have:
▪️Clear messaging
▪️An actual strategy
▪️A path for those eyeballs to follow
…then you’re just spinning your wheels in a vat of glitter. (Cute, but messy and kinda pointless, TBH)

Virality without a system to support it is just ✨pure chaos✨.

Let’s flip the script: could your marketing hold up if you actually got attention right now? Or would people bounce faster than a toddler on a trampoline?

Your content needs to lead somewhere.
If it doesn’t, your growth isn’t sustainable.
It’s just more noise in a very loud digital world.

What’s your plan for turning attention into action? If your current strategy is “hope and vibes,” you should grab the Create/Captivate Social Media Strategy Workbook. I made it for the DIYers and small teams just like yours: https://tinyurl.com/4dvak727

I love a good trend, but I've never been one to jump on EVERY marketing trend. Most of them aren’t built for people like me, or businesses like mine.

We don’t need every trending audio or gimmick to be relevant. We just need to be real and intentional.

Trends can be fun. But they should never lead your strategy.

Here’s what I ask myself before I hop on a trend train:

✅ Does this actually fit my audience’s vibe, or is it just what everyone else is doing?
✅ Does it align with my goals, or am I posting it just to keep up?
✅ Would I be excited to do it again? Or is this a one-time “ugh, fine”?
✅ Is this just p*er pressure with a ring light?

When you’re clear on your brand and your business, the trends that do make sense are easy to spot. Everything else = noise.

👉 Your content shouldn’t feel like a costume. If it doesn’t feel like you, it’s okay to skip it. Want strategy that works when trends don’t? I can help you build that system.
