What happens when an AI becomes so powerful that nobody fully understands how it works?

In The AlphaOmega Algorithm, Roger Grimes imagines an extraordinarily capable AI search engine under Congressional investigation. But when an unexpected emergency challenges everything the investigators believe about reality, the questions become much bigger than technology.

It's a provocative story exploring artificial intelligence, power, and the unsettling possibility that some answers might change everything we think we know.

A rare fiction project for the portfolio, and a fun departure from the business and technology books.

Every workplace has a few porcupines.

Difficult bosses, challenging coworkers, and prickly clients can make even the simplest projects complicated.

Working with Porcupines by Terry McKinney offers 24 practical lessons in leadership, conflict resolution, and navigating the personalities that make professional life interesting.

For this audiobook cover, we took the metaphor literally: a porcupine dressed for business. It was also our first project incorporating generative AI imagery, which helped bring the character to life.

Because sometimes the best way to communicate a complicated workplace challenge is with a well-dressed porcupine.

AI can generate content in seconds. Creating content that's actually worth reading is another matter.

The Optimized Marketer: Writing with AI by Joe Smith explores how marketers, writers, and business leaders can integrate AI into their creative workflows without losing the human judgment that makes their work effective.

From prompting and editing to repurposing content across platforms, the book focuses on building the skills and processes needed to work confidently with AI.

It's not just about producing more content. It's about becoming a more capable creator in a rapidly changing industry.

Technology moves fast. The economic forces behind it are surprisingly consistent.

From artificial intelligence to blockchain and virtual reality, emerging technologies are reshaping how we work, earn, and build wealth. But understanding their impact doesn't require predicting the future.

Techonomics You Should Know by Taosha Wang explores the economics behind disruptive technologies, breaking down what they mean for jobs, income, and financial opportunity.

It's a practical perspective on technological change, focused less on the hype and more on what it means for everyday life.

The textbook says one thing. The business says another.

Successful data governance takes more than policies, frameworks, and best practices. It takes an understanding of people, organizational dynamics, and the ability to adapt when things don't go according to plan.

Data Governance in the Real World by Neil Kirkham explores the challenges practitioners actually face, from disappearing executive support to organizational resistance, and offers practical ways to move forward.

We designed the cover to reflect the tension between a well-structured plan and the unpredictable realities of putting it into practice.

Working with Dennis Vorobyov on the cover for 42: The AI Builder's Stack was one of my favorite projects this year.

Not just because of the finished cover, but because Dennis is one of those rare clients who comes into a project with a clear sense of how the cover should feel, rather than a predetermined idea of how it should look.

He gives the creative process room to breathe. He wants to explore different concepts, understand the thinking behind them, and see where the ideas lead before making a decision.

That kind of collaboration is incredibly rewarding. It creates opportunities to discover solutions neither of us necessarily envisioned at the beginning.

The result was a bold, minimalist cover built around a prominent “42,” with typography and color doing the heavy lifting.

And the book itself? It's a practical, no-hype guide to building with AI, from coding agents and developer tools to transforming how entire teams work.

A little something different from the usual design work.

Event number 9 in my 12-in-12 challenge.

Last weekend I completed a Spartan Trifecta Weekend: the Beast, Super and Sprint over two days. Three races, a lot of miles, a lot of obstacles, and an unreasonable amount of mud.

I spend most of my working life behind a computer, so I’ve come to really value having something outside of work that challenges me in a completely different way.

It was exhausting, occasionally ridiculous, and an absolute blast.

Trifecta earned. Back to designing things.

Companies rarely fail because they execute poorly.

More often, they fail because they keep optimizing a system whose rules have already changed.

The System Gambit challenges leaders to recognize when incremental improvement is no longer enough, and when building a new system becomes the real competitive advantage.

We designed the cover around that moment of transition—leaving behind the familiar to build something capable of compounding over time.

AI is changing creative work, but not in the way many people expected.

The real advantage isn't simply using AI. It's learning how to think with it, experiment with it, and ask better questions.

Late Night with AI is an approachable guide for anyone curious about what today's AI tools can actually do.

We designed the cover to capture that sense of exploration—a late-night conversation where ideas keep unfolding long after you expected to call it a night.
