We're going to FUSE San Francisco! Hosted by our friends at Point One Navigation, Inc., this one-day event features an incredible lineup of speakers and brings together engineers and technology leaders working on the challenges of high precision positioning with robots, autonomous vehicles, drones, or other intelligent machines.

SparkFun will be sharing a Septentrio-based high-precision GNSS kit that uses Point One correction services, demonstrating how developers can combine high-quality GNSS hardware with precision correction services to start experimenting with accurate real-world positioning. This demo will include documentation + hardware + Point One to provide RTK positioning (and we'll be giving away some kits too 😉).

We've recently released some updated current sensors with the INA228 and INA237 Qwiic Current Sensors and the ADE7953 Qwiic Non-Invasive Current Sensor and Kit.

With these releases, we realized that we have quite a few different and unique sensors that can measure and output power data, and that it could be a little confusing which sensor could be right for you. So let's go over a basic overview of what current is and the most popular SparkFun Original current sensors that we carry.

We even have a video with one of our engineers, Geoff, if you'd prefer to watch instead of reading a long form blog!

70 volts measured on the PHY side of an Ethernet transformer during a hot-plug event, on a circuit rated for 3.3V.

That's what the PJRC forum found when testing passive PoE with Teensy 4.1. A 54V passive injector, an RJ45 connector whose pins don't make or break simultaneously, and parasitic capacitance in the magnetics combined to blow through the DP83825 PHY's absolute maximum MDI rating of 4V. The PHY was destroyed.

Transformer isolation protects against steady-state DC just fine. But during a fast connection transient, the system becomes electrically unbalanced, and that energy couples through. It's an analog problem hiding inside what looks like a digital interface.

This is the latest Paul's Deep Dives post, built from two PJRC forum discussions with Paul Stoffregen's original engineering insights. Read all about it at https://bit.ly/4diwW2g

The MAX98357A proves that great audio performance can come in a small package. 🔊⚡
Featured in the I2S Audio Breakout, the MAX98357A combines a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with a built-in Class D amplifier, converting I2S audio into speaker-ready output. Capable of delivering up to 3.2W into a 4Ω load, it provides a simple way to add high-quality audio to embedded projects without the need for a separate amplifier stage.
Whether you're building a smart speaker, audio notifier, interactive device, or custom IoT project, the MAX98357A helps streamline design while delivering impressive sound from a compact breakout board. SparkFun Electronics, Inc.

When we talk about the Experiential Robotics Platform (XRP), much of the conversation naturally centers around middle- and high-school classrooms. But here's the thing: XRP is being adopted in colleges and universities for a variety of uses.

Some pretty interesting things are happening - from teaching advanced engineering concepts and developing new applications to running youth programs and supporting educators.

In this blog, we dive into exactly what universities are doing, looking specifically at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Cornell Systems Engineering, ATLAS Institute at CU Boulder, Community College System of NH, and Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Ready to get actual CO2 measurements (instead of estimated CO2 measurements)?

The new SparkFun STCC4/SHT40 Qwiic CO2 Sensor is a simple indoor air quality breakout that primarily measures CO2 concentration, as well as temperature and relative humidity over I2C. Specifically, the board features a pair of Sensirion sensors, isolated in their own section: the STCC4 CO2 sensor and the SHT40 digital temperature and humidity sensor. These two sensors work together to output precise and environmentally compensated CO2 readings without any complicated wiring.

While most CO2 sensors measure estimated CO2 concentration, the STCC4 uses thermal conductivity to directly measure actual CO2 concentrations from 400 to 5000 ppm (parts per million) with an accuracy of ±100ppm + 10% of the total reading. It outputs a calibrated digital signal that works with temperature and humidity data sent to it by the SHT40.

What if you could connect an IoT device to satellites using hardware you may already have on your workbench?

Hubble Network recently opened public access to its satellite network for IoT devices, making it possible to send data through its satellite network using Bluetooth-enabled hardware. Even better, you don't necessarily need specialized satellite hardware to get started.

We made a video and guide showing you how to connect a SparkFun ESP32-C6 Thing Plus to the Hubble Network walking through the process from setup to sending data.

To celebrate their new launch, Hubble is offering a free 45-day trial for both the Terrestrial and Satellite Networks!

Introducing the new Qwiic Formaldehyde Sensor, utilizing the miniature SFA40 from Sensirion!

The SFA40 from Sensirion is an electrochemical sensor that maintains accurate formaldehyde measurements in environments that have other common indoor gases such as ethanol or nitrogen dioxide, it's the best-in-class for this sort of thing.

The SparkFun SFA40 Qwiic Formaldehyde Sensor is a unique indoor gas sensor that measures low concentrations of formaldehyde (CH2O/HCHO) with excellent accuracy, even in the presence of other similar gases. The SFA40 communicates over I2C, so we put it on this Qwiic breakout to easily integrate it into a Qwiic circuit with no soldering necessary.

Ever wanted to make a human motion alarm (not to be confused with just a motion alarm)? Now you can! Using just a Teensy, a sensor, and a few small parts, professional maker Jeremy Cook shows us how simple this practical project can be!

We’re all familiar with the tried-and-true motion sensor units that turn on security lights and darken the office when no one is there and moving about. But what if you’re in the office, dutifully performing a largely sedentary job (e.g., writing an article about motion sensors)? Typical motion ...
