Sitting here with my coffee this morning, thinking about how grateful I am for this life Jamison and I are building. 🤍

Business grew pretty unexpectedly this summer, and I’ve realized how much the little things I do to stay grounded matter when everything else starts moving quickly.

My morning coffee. Putting my phone away when I’m with Jamison. Journaling. Making space to hear my own thoughts.

I think I used to see those things as separate from my business. Now I see how much they actually support and fuel each other.

I think this is part of the difference between years 2-3 in business and year 16.

I could teach you every tactic in the book to grow your business (heck, you can get most of them from ChatGPT in five seconds).

But learning how to hold that growth, lead yourself, say no to the things that don’t support the vision, and stay grounded while you build is where the real leap happens.

I called my aunt this morning, just as I do every year on this day.

She was in Building One that morning, and she made it out.

We had a conversation that made me think about gratitude differently. She told me that when she prayed this morning, she prayed in gratitude for the architects, engineers, and construction workers who built those buildings.

She said, “I will forever be grateful those buildings were so strong. They gave so many of us time to get out.”

The North Tower stood for 103 minutes after the plane hit it. Those minutes saved so many lives.

I just thought that was such a beautiful perceptive. Every anniversary, I learn about more and more heroes of 911 and I sit here in awe and gratitude ❤️🙏🏻

Autism moms. We celebrate milestones a little louder. ❤️

I was at school pickup today for Jamison and another autism mom was waiting for her son. When he came out with his aide, she asked, “Any words today?” and the aide said, “yes, 3!”

Our faces lit up. I gave her a little wink. A couple of words. The little miracles we get to witness every day.

I still remember Jamison’s first word. I was in the kitchen making lunch, and he was in the living room with his therapist. She was counting, “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7…”

And out of nowhere I heard his tiny voice for the first time. I had waited almost four years to hear it.

“Eight!”

I nearly dropped the pan and ran into the living room. “Did he say 8?!” We all cried. I was so, so grateful.

This journey has changed the way I see everything. It’s taught me to celebrate the smallest things, because they’re never actually small. ❤️

I keep thinking about a conversation today with someone who was frustrated that the people in her life just don’t understand what she’s trying to build. The long hours, the risk, the grind.

It made me think of a quote I heard recently about doing the things most people aren’t willing to do if you want a life most people don’t have.

So I told her, “You’re doing what 99% of people won’t do, making risks they wouldn’t take… how many people do you think are actually going to understand you?”

Entrepreneurship is a different breed. Most people won’t get it, you’re not building for them.

Lately Jamison’s been asking me to sit with him while he eats his breakfast. Usually I’m running around like a mad woman making his lunch, packing his backpack, answering voxer between all of it.

This morning he looked at me and said,
“Mom, let’s sit down and talk about our day.” 🥹❤️

My sweet boy teaches me more about life than anything ever could.
