Build your relationships now. Story time from Sydney, Australia. 6 years ago, Madison left to go to university. Six. Years. Later. She is still there. All the way in Australia. She is getting her PhD in animal science + AI and has the opportunity to work with everything from Apple to sheep. Incredibly proud of her and the work she is doing.

That being said, as a mom, I miss her. So much so that recently I was chatting with her asking (for the 1,000 time) when her PhD was going to be finished so she could return to California. She gave me good advice:

“Build a relationship with me now.”

Although it was tough to hear, it was good advice. I was so focused on when she was coming home, I was losing sight of the incredible relationship we could have now. So, I tapped into my airmiles and boarded a plane to Sydney.

Thankful to have the opportunity to be able to take sometime to spend with her and work remote due to the incredible team we have at Jobot.

It has been great focusing on her this week and not asking any questions about when she is returning — just focusing on the now and being together and supporting her where she is at.

If I have learned anything from this particular point in the journey it is Build Your Relationships Now.

We are fortunate to be on this journey together. Might as well make the most of it.

Happy 84th Birthday, Grandmama BlueBird!Celebrating 84 years of positive light and joy! One thing Grandmama BlueBird has to share is her nuggets of wisdom. One of her favorite sayings that she always told us as kids (and anyone who will listen) is: “Picture it and put it in action!!”

She was the OG supporter of manifesting. What is now accomplished in vision boards, she would create with the only thing we had growing up - words of affirmation.

Thankful for her. Grateful for the opportunity to see her rise from a West Virginia coal miner’s daughter all the way to meeting Minnie Mouse on a Disney Cruise.

Have a goal you want to achieve? Be like Grandmama BlueBird and “Picture it and put it in action!!”

Jobot: It’s 4 years in and I’m Feeling Good! [insert trumpets here 🎺] There is a lot that can and will be said about our Jobot Weekend at the The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C.. Seeing that a company built on kindness + respect can change the game is inspiring. Celebrating putting more people into new jobs in Q3 than ever before is humbling.

Here are some quotes heard over the weekend:

• “Is this for real?”
• “I’ve never met so many great people in one place!”
• “What is this? It’s so yummy!”
• “Congratulations!” 4,032 times
• “Woo hoo!! Yes!! What’d I win?”

We believe in collaboration over competition and people over profits. Which means we have over 200 people rooting for each other to succeed.
The energy in the room is incredible. Then, add hundreds of folks on Zoom cheering them on and getting ready to celebrate next quarter = Good Times.

Thank you, Jobot Family…for turning the idea of Jobot into a reality that surpasses imagination.

4 years in at Jobot and 4 things I have learned:

1. Kindness + respect matter. Everyone at Jobot and everyone we interact with deserves kindness + respect. This is non-negotiable. We definitely make mistakes but we get back on track by checking ourselves and seeing if our actions come from a place of kindness + respect.

2. Fortune Favors the Bold. The hardest thing about working at Jobot is not learning our software, Jax, nor deciding where in the world to work remote — it’s leaving the perceived safety of a job that does just enough to make you feel safe. Pay the bills, provide healthcare and a few perks. Walking out that door metaphorically and physically to join a startup is a bold move.

3. Hire the best, provide them with the best tools and get out of their way.

4. People over profits. Every time.

Thank you to the over 600 people who made the bold move and are building Jobot together. I am honored to give you my best everyday. Thank you for giving us your best.

What is a fascinator? Glad you asked! A fascinator is an over the top hat worn to special occasions. These two fabulous ladies, my Aunt Millie and Mom, Grandmama Bluebird, raised me. So, when said that Jobot and I were up for an Icon award for our work in the community and as a business, that was the perfect occasion for them to dress up and wear those fascinators!

They also keep me humble. Let me set the scene:

Me: Mom, I am up for an Icon award.

Mom: You are giving away an Apple iPhone?!!!

Me: No, an Icon award for being an Icon.

Mom: Aunt Betty really needs a new iPhone

Me: It’s an award for helping the community and developing a business based on kindness + respect

Mom: So, no iPhone?

Me: It’s not an iPhone, it’s an award.

Mom: That’s great, honey.

Fortunately for me, they still agreed to wear their fascinators and cheer me on even though no iPhones were given out.

I will never win an Oscar. Indeed, a Super Bowl ring seems out of my reach. However, I was fortunate enough to be named an EY Entrepreneur of the Year for 2022 on Friday night. Grandmama BlueBird took the stage representing all of our support systems to give her some spotlight since friends and family are often cheering us on from the sidelines and behind the scenes.

How’d it go down?

A. EY threw a fabulous event and gave out my surprise award at the end of the night. This means my 82-year old mom, Grandmama BlueBird, was up late and focused on that stage for hours in the hopes that a trophy was coming home.
B. The judges at EY were kind enough to award me with a special Serial Entreprenur of the Year Award since Jobot is my 3rd business that has won for EY EOY!
C. This picture is extra special as it shows 3 generations: My daughter, Lauren Golledge, who just walked her Grandmama to the stage, me graciously accepting the award on behalf of the Jobot Family — over 500 people at Jobot who make magic happen daily — and Grandmama BlueBird, taking a much deserved bow.

Why is Grandmama BlueBird bowing? As a widowed, single mom of four — she raised us with her own brand of kindness + respect and encouraged us to do our best — in whatever field that may be. She supported me even when I took a computer and plugged it into our home tv to try and learn to code. For this, and many other reasons, I asked Grandmama BlueBird to come take a bow as this was also her night.

Thank you to everyone at Jobot, our clients, candidates and partners who have trusted us to build with you and EY for recognizing our efforts.

Huge thank you to all the caregivers out there who support, encourage and care for the next generation of entrepreneurs, parents, CEOs and dreamers. We appreciate you.
