We ignored advice on how to succeed in business... and here we are, 4 years later.
Well, we didn't exactly ignore it.
We spent A LOT of time researching, debating, and questioning whether the traditional advice for growing a business was actually right for us.
Should we hire? Expand? Take on more clients? Work more hours?
We wasted a ridiculous amount of energy trying to figure out what a successful business was SUPPOSED to look like.
And eventually, we realized we were asking the wrong question.
Instead of asking how big we could grow, we started asking what kind of business would best support our family.
And that changed everything.
We've become more selective about our clients. We work primarily with family-owned businesses that fit our vibe. We say no to projects that aren't right for us, and we've stopped treating being busy as a badge of honor.
The result?
Year four has been our most successful year yet, with the most rest we've ever had.
We booked our largest client to date, worked fewer hours, and genuinely enjoyed running our business.
Who would've thought?!
But here's the part I didn't expect.
All that questioning has made us better at advising our clients.
We don't automatically recommend the biggest website or the most expensive solution. We ask what makes sense for YOUR business, YOUR goals, and YOUR capacity.
Sometimes that means a big website. Sometimes it means a simple one. Sometimes it means telling someone they're not ready to invest in one at all.
Because we've learned firsthand that success doesn't have one formula.
Four years ago, we started Mom and Pop Web Stuff with $1,000 and a whole lot of ideas.
Today, we have a business that supports our family instead of competing with it.
And we're pretty darn proud of that.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted us, referred us, and supported us along the way.
Here's to another year of doing business our way!
