Microsoft continues to push users to non-Windows systems: Window 7 is getting a monthly fee. And the fee will go up every year.

"In a new blog post entitled 'Helping customers shift to a modern desktop', Microsoft has announced that it will indeed start charging Windows 7 customers a monthly fee from January 14th 2020, if they want to keep their computers safe."

Sure, you can keep using it as-is, but no security updates. A hackers dream, since "Windows 7 is still used by almost 40% of computers globally". To top it off, not everyone is allowed to get the subscription.

Microsoft has confirmed a new monthly charge for Windows 7...

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss? Making a finished website work on IE used to use up lots of web design time. Recently, Google wanted Structured Data added, and that can be another time-intensive process. Now Google is forcing a mobile-first design. Doing it might be time consuming, but it's not a bad thing.

This is big and won't get fixed for a long time. Concerns about something like this is one of the reason I won't like into anything using Facebook credentials when a page asks me to.

"Users who wish to avoid any potential loss of data should be careful about clicking links that immediately ask you to log in to Facebook or Google. Closing the tab immediately should prevent any redirection attacks."

Attackers can use the "Covert Redirect" vulnerability in both open-source login systems to steal your data and redirect you to unsafe sites.

I'm torn between thinking that MSFT should fix this sort of thing, (because "Security firms estimate that between 15 and 25 percent of the world's PCs still run Windows XP.") and hoping that people will take the simple fix and quit using Internet Explorer so I don't have to keep worrying about making website work on it.

Microsoft is scrambling to fix a major bug which allows hackers to exploit flaws in Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, responsible for 55% of the PC browser market. The company has also confirmed it will not issue a fix for web browsers running on Windows XP [...]
