1. Is the card reader free, or is there a fee attached to it?
2. What's the full list of fees? Not the rate. The list.
3. How long is the term, and does it renew on its own?
4. What does it cost me to leave?

If they can't answer all four in plain English while you're sitting right there, you already know what's in that contract.

Looking at an ID only tells you what the ID wants you to show you. Scanning the barcode on the back reads what’s actually encoded on it, birthdate against today’s date, approved or denied, about two seconds at the register.

NRS has a premium License ID Scanning feature: the scanner already on your counter reads the license, confirms the age and leaves you a record of the check.

A refund and a chargeback are not the same thing.

A refund is you deciding to give money back. A chargeback is somebody else deciding for you — the money comes out of your account and you don't get a say. There's an appeals process, but it's slow, and you pay a fee every time whether you win or lose. So you're out the sale and the fee.

If a customer's unhappy and you can settle it at the counter, settle it at the counter. That choice is only yours before they call their bank.
